His brother played a decisive role in the Socceroos' 2015 Asian Cup triumph, but Deni Juric has declared his desire to play for Croatia and not Australia.
The 24-year-old forward has played for both nations at youth level but is yet to represent either senior side.
Socceroos coach Graham Arnold has previously indicated he expected Juric to play for the green and gold when and if the time came, but the attacker might now have other ideas.
Juric is enjoying a breakout season in Europe as he plays regularly for Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb and scored his second goal of the new campaign over the weekend against Slaven Belupo.
While born in Sydney, Juric has spent most of his life in Croatia and recently revealed his preference will be to play senior football for that nation.
"It has not been decided yet, but now that I am a senior, I would like to play for the Croatian national team," Juric told Sportske.
"My parents are from here, that's where I was raised, I spent my teenage years in Croatia. After all, we are runners-up in the world. My heart beats for Croatia."
Last month, Arnold suggested Juric was on the Socceroos' radar for a call-up in the near future.
"Deni was spoken to, he’s obviously just breaking through at Dinamo Zagreb and he’s doing fantastically well,” Arnold said in August.
"It’s a player that we like, it’s a player that we expect will want to play for Australia, he was spoken to for this camp and he’s one that we’ve got our eye on."
Juric wasn't picked for the Olyroos to play at the Tokyo Olympics and was overlooked by the Socceroos in their most recent 27-man squad.
Whether he can force himself into contention for Croatia's senior side anytime soon remains to be seen but he's not harming his chances with Dinamo Zagreb.
The forward has started the majority of their league games this season and also played 45 minutes in a recent Europa League clash against West Ham.
