If there's one man that knows Socceroos coach Graham Arnold better than most, it's his former assistant Phil Moss.
The current president of Football Coaches Australia previously worked with Arnold as his right-hand man at both Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC in the A-League.
Moss hasn't joined Arnold in the Socceroos set-up but has kept a close eye on the man he credits with his own development as a player and coach.
Despite the green and gold currently being on a 10-game winning streak as they look to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, some fans remain unconvinced that Arnold is the right man for the job long-term.
Moss, unsurprisingly, thinks differently and opened up about the Socceroos coach's passion for the game and how he's gone above and beyond in his current position.
"He's very misunderstood publicly. There's a lot of people in Australia that would not be Arnie fans," Moss told The Football Coaching Life Podcast.
"But I can tell you anyone that's played for him, anyone's that coached with and under him, anyone that's been mentored by him, anyone that's a mate of his - you can't speak more highly of who he his and what he stands for.
"He cares passionately, too passionately, about the whole of the game. In fact, that's probably cost him a bit of success in his own right as a coach.
"We went into COVID lockdown and he did a performance report for the whole of the game to work out where the lost generation had gone, why and how we could get them back. He didn't have to do that as Socceroos coach.
"He didn't have to take on the Olyroos job for no extra income to try and develop the next generation of Socceroos.
"He's been a huge part of my journey as a player and coach. The thing that we all probably ask more than anything is, would a mate take a bullet for you? And 155 per cent he would, and no matter what that's about...
"I would like to see him get the success he deserves with the national teams and then one day abroad."
The Socceroos, who haven't been able to play at home since late 2019 due to COVID-19, next face Oman on October 7 in World Cup qualifying with that match expected to be held in Qatar.
