Netherlands vs Argentina odds

Argentina are fancied by the sportsbooks to come through this clash, holding a slight advantage over the Netherlands in the early betting.

Sports Interaction make them 2.17 to win the match in 90 minutes, while Netherlands are 3.33 to do likewise.

The draw is 3.12, while no goal being scored in 90 minutes is a big 7.80 — which is perhaps no surprise given the wealth of attacking talent that will be on display.

Netherlands vs Argentina history

The Netherlands and Argentina have faced each other on nine previous occasions with - rather remarkably - five of those coming at World Cups.

It is the Dutch who hold the advantage on head-to-head, with four wins to Argentina's three while two meetings have ended in draws.

Here, we look back at every clash between the two nations at a World Cup.

1974 World Cup, West Germany

The Netherlands smashed Argentina in the second group phase of this World Cup, with Johan Cruyff scoring twice in a 4-0 victory.

However, a Rinus Michels-led team considered among the greatest to have graced the tournament ultimately went on to fall short in the final, losing to hosts Germany.

1978 World Cup, Argentina

The Dutch followed up that near miss by making the final again in 1978 but were left heartbroken again by the host nation - this time Argentina.

Golden Boot winner Mario Kempes scored twice in a 3-1 win decided in extra time.

1998 World Cup, France

Dennis Bergkamp scored one of the iconic goals in World Cup history in the 90th minute of this 2-1 quarterfinal win for the Netherlands.

Unfortunately, for the Dutch, they would bow out in the semifinals after losing a penalty shootout to Brazil.

2006 World Cup, Germany

A rare forgettable World Cup clash between these two nations occurred when they were drawn together in Group C of the 2006 edition of the tournament.

A 0-0 draw ultimately helped both make it to the knockout stages, though the Netherlands only got as far as the Round of 16, while Germany went out in the semis.

2014 World Cup, Brazil

Argentina broke Dutch hearts again eight years ago, winning a semifinal penalty shooutout following a 0-0 draw in Sao Paulo.

However, Lionel Messi and Co. subsequently fell short in the final, where an extra-time goal from Mario Gotze handed Germany the trophy.
