Wilfried Bony has confirmed he is in discussions about a possible move to Australia as he looks to restart his playing career.
The 32-year-old last played in Saudi Arabia for Al-Ittihad but has been without a club since his exit in November 2020.
Bony is best known for his stunning debut season with Swansea City where he scored 16 Premier League goals across the 2013-14 campaign.
The Ivory Coast international would subsequently earn a move to Manchester City in 2015 but form and injury ultimately stalled his career significantly in the years that followed.
Currently keeping fit by training with League Two club Newport County, Bony is desperate to find his next club soon and confirmed Australia is on his radar with A-League clubs seemingly circling.
“I have had interest in Turkey especially, in Austria and a few other countries around. There have also been approaches in South Korea and even in Australia," Bony told Foot Mercato.
"We are in discussion with people there. We discuss to see what it would be possible to do. Australia and South Korea may please me.
"I'm doing well. I just need to find a team to allow me to find some rhythm. It will take me a month or two to be on top then. It's normal, I haven't played for eight months.
“Physically, you can be ready, but if you don't have the rhythm, you can't really perform. I have to go through the minutes with a team to get back into the game after four to five matches.
"COVID-19 complicates things a bit. But you have to deal with it. The most important thing is to face the problems, not to run away from them. No matter where we are, there will always be problems. I adapt."
Melbourne Victory were linked with a move for Bony earlier this month with The Outline claiming his agent had successfully started negotiations with the club.
New coach Tony Popovic has already overseen a number of impressive signings this off-season with Victory recently beating Western Sydney Wanderers to the signature of Chris Ikonomidis.
The club are still in the market for reliable striker however with Bony looming as an interesting but potentially risky option considering his lack of game time over the past year.
