Since the Ballon d'Or was expanded to recognise female footballers, Sam Kerr is one of only four players that have been nominated all three times.
The Matildas attacker was unsurprisingly among a recently revealed list of 20 players vying for the 2021 edition and looms as Australia's only representative.
In 2018, Kerr finished fifth in voting for the Ballon d'Or before placing seventh a year later.
While extraordinary results in themselves, both those years saw the Aussie slip somewhat under the radar playing club football with Perth Glory and Chicago Red Stars.
Kerr is now starring in England with Chelsea since moving to Europe in early 2020 and should now be considered a genuine contender for football's biggest individual award.
Across the 2020-21 Women's Super League (WSL) season, the 28-year-old scored 21 goals from 22 games to claim the competition's golden boot - an award she has also previously picked up in the W-League and NWSL.
Kerr scored three goals during Chelsea's recent UEFA Women's Champions League campaign which saw the club make the final before falling to Barcelona.
The Matilda did taste success in the FA Women's League Cup final in March with her 48-minute hat-trick guiding the Blues to a comfortable 6-0 win over Bristol City.
Kerr's exploits in front of goal have continued into the 2021-22 WSL campaign too where she has already netted five goals from four games.
At international level this year, Kerr started off slowly under new Matildas manager Tony Gustavsson but was once again key to the side as she scored six goals at the Tokyo Olympics.

Her form for club and country means Kerr is a real chance of taking home the 2021 Ballon d'Or or at the very least making the top three for the first time.
The Australian does of course face some stiff competition for the award with Arsenal's Vivianne Miedema, Chelsea's Fran Kirby and five Barcelona players among a few of the other notable contenders.
Reigning champion Megan Rapinoe didn't secure a nomination this year, however, while 2018 winner Ada Hegerberg is only just returning to the pitch after a lengthy injury layoff.
Kerr's consistency to be nominated for the award across three straight editions can't be underestimated and proves she is undoubtedly one of the world's best players.
While her route to the 2021 Ballon d'Or or even a podium finish is far from straight forward, if she continues to score goals between now and late November, you'd be brave to bet against her.
