A six-part documentary series on the Matildas is in the works with Football Australia and The Walt Disney Company teaming up to tell the side's story.
The Disney+ Original will provide behind-the-scenes insights of the Matildas with footage captured at the Tokyo Olympics and 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup.
The series will also highlight moments off the pitch as the team prepares for the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
“Football Australia is thrilled to be partnering with The Walt Disney Company to produce this series that will take fans behind the curtain of Australia’s most popular national sporting team, the Commonwealth Bank Matildas," Football Australia's chief executive officer James Johnson said in a press release.
"The Commonwealth Bank Matildas represent Australia on the world stage as global ambassadors and are an inspiration to many, both young and old.
"This docu-series is an incredible opportunity to share their story not just locally, but globally, and at a time of rapid evolution in women’s football, we are proud to be working with the world’s best story-telling company to bring the Matildas spirit to life.
"By taking the public behind-the-scenes, we aim to provide unique insights into what makes this team so special and highlight their burning desire to perform on the world stage, for themselves, their families and those who have come before them.
"Importantly, in partnering with The Walt Disney Company, Football Australia has chosen a partner that focuses on stories with inspirational and aspirational themes. Together, we hope that this docu-series will inspire the next generation of footballers, girls and boys, around the world, and our players are excited by that challenge.
"This is a story the playing group want to tell, and we look forward to sharing their story."
The series will be released locally via Disney+ sometime in 2023 with a global release on the same platform to come at a later date.
The Matildas have skyrocketed in popularity over the past two decades with their matches at the Tokyo Olympics drawing in record numbers of viewers.
Tony Gustavsson's side have struggled on the pitch of late and were knocked out in the quarter-finals at the AFC Women's Asian Cup in January.
The Matildas will be hoping to bounce back when they return to action this week with a first friendly against New Zealand to be played in Queensland on Friday night.
