Manchester City will look to get back to winning ways in the Carabao Cup — a competition they made their own under Pep Guardiola — when they host Chelsea in a mouthwatering third-round tie.

Before last season's fourth-round defeat to West Ham on penalties, City had lifted the cup for four consecutive seasons form 2017/18 to 2020/21.

In the 2019 final they were penalty shoot-out winners over Maurizio Sarri's Chelsea. Graham Potter is the latest man in the Blues hot seat and will have his work cut out as he tries to arrest a run of four games without a win domestically.

City have won all 10 of their home matches across all competitions this season, scoring 39 goals in the process.

Graham Potter brings in Armando Broja to lead the line, flanked by Christian Pulisic and Hakim ZiyechRaheem Sterling has to be content with a place on the bench against his former club, while there is a start for 18 year-old Lewis Hall.

Man City vs Chelsea betting odds, prediction

The particular circumstances of last weekend's game against Fulham mean City might have already had their most difficult game against west London opponents this week.

Guardiola will be taking nothing for granted against a team and a coach he admires. No club has beaten the City boss more often in his coaching career than Chelsea (level on eight with Liverpool).

Prediction: The past three meetings between these sides have all finished 1-0, initially in Chelsea's favour in the 2021 Champions League final before City won each Premier League game last season. Those games all featured Thomas Tuchel in the Chelsea dugout and Potter's willingness to attack City, plus the likelihood of numerous changes by both teams means there could be goals.

Guardiola's men can fight to preserve their perfect home record this term and emerge as 3-2 victors.
