Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp says it was "helpful" to give his players Monday and Tuesday off following their 3-0 humbling at Wolves on February 4.

The thrashing by a team who had been in the Premier League relegation zone was the latest low point on a run of one win in seven games for Liverpool – who sit 10th in the table before the visit of an Everton side, buoyed by a deserved 1-0 win at home to leaders Arsenal to strengthen their survival hopes.

"On Sunday, after we spoke, I 100 per cent felt as though it made sense not to see each other again for two days," said Klopp. "I left in an average mood and came back in a good mood."

Liverpool vs Everton betting odds

Liverpool are considerable odds-on favourites to win for the first time in five Premier League games by beating opponents who will start the game in the relegation zone.

Everton looked revitalised in new head coach Sean Dyche's first game in charge against the Gunners and the visitors will rarely have a better opportunity to win the derby if they can reproduce that markedly improved performance and Liverpool are underwhelming again.

The Toffees have won one of their last 22 league visits to Anfield but there are parallels with that victory in February 2021, when Liverpool were on a dreadful run of form that continued when Everton condemned them to a fourth consecutive defeat with a 2-0 win.
