Two teams with everything to play for meet during Saturday's early Premier League kick-off at Elland Road as relegation-threatened Leeds United face Champions League-chasing Newcastle United.

This match very much has a feeling of now or never for a Leeds team who in recent weeks have really struggled for quality. The introduction of experienced manager Sam Allardyce helped stem the defensive woes away at Manchester City last time out, losing just 2-1, but time is fast running out for the hosts.

By contrast, Newcastle's charge up the league under manager Eddie Howe is nearing its completion with his side looking like they will finish in the top four this campaign.

A tricky test awaits in West Yorkshire but the visiting Magpies remain in fantastic form away from home, winning four of their last five league games on the road.

Leeds vs Newcastle prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Newcastle United (-150)
  • Score prediction: Leeds 1-2 Newcastle

While we're predicting Leeds to put up much more of a fight here than in recent matches, we still feel like Newcastle will have enough to take home the three points.

The visitors have been tough to beat all season and, on the road of late in particular, have been in fine goalscoring form. Bar their poor 3-0 loss to Aston Villa at Villa Park a few weeks back, the Magpies have hit 13 goals across four of their last five away outings and, given Leeds' defensive frailties, that should prove the difference here.

Leeds vs Newcastle: best bet

  • Pick: Over 2.5 goals scored
  • Odds: -160 (BetMGM)

Granted, the odds aren't great on this selection but over 2.5 goals scored in this Premier League clash seems about as locked-on as a bet can get.

That might be famous last words but Leeds have leaked goals of late.

On top of the fact that the hosts have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their prior 12 outings, they've conceded 12 times across their last three home league fixtures.

Couple that with Newcastle's excellent away goalscoring over the past month and the home side could struggle again here defensively.

Leeds vs Newcastle flier bet

  • Pick: 40+ Leeds booking points
  • Odds: 9/4 (+225) (SkyBet)

With the pressure on, expect a flurry of Leeds cards at Elland Road.

New manager Sam Allardyce is a fan of his tough tackling players, while only Wolves and Crystal Palace have picked up more disciplinary points in the Premier League season.

Leeds' count for the campaign stands at 35 yellow and two red cards through 35 matches, while the reverse fixture saw them pick up 50 booking points by way of five yellow cards in what was a feisty affair.

Equally, the last fixture between these two sides at Elland Road also saw Leeds on the receiving end of four bookings.
