Matildas and Socceroos players have officially secured a new pay deal with Football Australia off the back of their respective strong FIFA World Cup performances.

Under the latest Collective Bargaining Agreement, the match payment salaries of female players will be brought in line with their male counterparts.

There will also be an incentive to continue to perform, with a larger share of commercial revenue on offer.

How much are Matildas and Socceroos players paid?

Both Matildas and Socceroos players will now be paid under a tiered system, with top players receiving up to $200,000 per year outside the World Cup cycle.

Previously, the Matildas were paid via a central contracts model.

This means the nations' best female footballers could now earn up to $80,000 more per year — on top of their club salaries and extra tournament prize money.

National team squad players at the bottom of the tier system are expected to be paid approximately $120,000.

Under the new agreement, salaries are made up of match payments (70 per cent) and commercial payments (30 per cent), meaning players will earn a share of the revenue they help generate.

Football Australia CEO heralds new 'landmark' pay deal for Matildas and Socceroos

"This agreement is more than a contract; it's a commitment to progress and a promise that as our revenue base flourishes, so will the opportunities and rewards for our players, making them key contributors in our game's prosperity," Football Australia CEO James Johnson said in a statement.

"Our aim is clear: to continue growing the game of Australian football hand in hand with those who bring it to life on the pitch.

"I am proud to say that this CBA is a landmark not just for Football Australia, but for sports organisations worldwide.

"It sets a new standard for how players and national associations can work together to achieve common objectives."

The new CBA also includes an improved parental policy, boosted player support programs and funding for former players.

"From the outset of these negotiations, our ambition was to set up the game for more success, but we also wanted to ensure that we leave the game in a better place for those who follow us," PFA president and Socceroos player Jackson Irvine added to the statement.

"This agreement will ensure that our national team players have everything they need to excel on the pitch, a more robust partnership that can strengthen the game and, importantly, allow us to have more impact off the pitch than ever before.

"The current generation of players are deeply grateful for those players who came before us and who fought to guarantee the conditions we enjoy today."
