Germany Euro 2024 squad: List of players on Julian Nagelsmann's final national team roster for UEFA tournament image

Germany's final squad for Euro 2024 contains plenty of young talent and experience as they seek glory on home soil.

Julian Nagelsmann named 26 players in his final roster ahead of the big kickoff on June 14, with the tournament taking place on home soil. There was a late change due to illness, with rising Bayern Munich star Aleksandar Pavlovic unfortunately ruled out.

After a disappointing time at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, in which they were eliminated at the group stage for the second World Cup in succession, there is great pressure on the 2014 world champions to impress in their home Euros. Nagelsmann, who took over from Hansi Flick in September 2023 following a disappointing run of results, is expected to lead a challenge for the trophy in front of expectant supporters.

Germany Euro 2024 squad and player roster

Nagelsmann's squad for Euro 2024 contains an interesting mix of veterans and more inexperienced players. A lot of those with few senior international caps are not exactly young, either: the roster has an average age of 28.

The obvious senior figures are Thomas Muller and Toni Kroos, who both seemed to be approaching the end of their international careers on more than one occasion but will now form a critical part of Nagelsmann's planning. The same can be said for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, now 38, and captain Ilkay Gundogan.

The youngest member of the squad had been 20-year-old Aleksandar Pavlovic, who has impressed for Bayern Munich this season and effectively usurped Leon Goretzka in midfield for club and country, but he contracted tonsilitis and was replaced in the squad by Borussia Dortmund's Emre Can just two days before their opening game. Bayern team-mate Jamal Musiala is already a star for his country despite his young age, as his Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz.

There are older players in the group with less experience at this level. Stuttgart defenders Waldemar Anton and Maximilian Mittelstadt have just six caps between them, while Brighton & Hove Albion's Pascal Gross is a relative newcomer on the international stage.

Striker Deniz Undav, who impressed on loan at Stuttgart from Brighton in 2023/24, only made his senior Germany debut in March.

How many players are in Euro 2024 squads?

Teams are permitted to name squads of up to 26 players — an increase of three from the previous tournament rules — with the minimum roster size set at 23.

UEFA regulations do not stipulate how many of those players must be goalkeepers.

Can Germany replace players on their Euro 2024 roster?

Once the final roster has been made official, changes can only be made due to injury or illness up until the team's opening match of the tournament.

UEFA's tournament regulations state: "Should listed players or goalkeepers become seriously injured or ill, they may only be substituted if both their team doctor and a doctor from the UEFA Medical Committee confirm that the injury or illness is sufficiently serious to prevent them from taking part in the final tournament."

While any outfield players must be replaced prior to their team's opening match — for Germany, that's June 14 — goalkeepers can be changed prior to their next scheduled game once the tournament is underway.
