The only top-flight matchup of the EFL Cup second round features two London clubs as Fulham host Tottenham Hotspur at Craven Cottage on Tuesday.

The two clubs have started the new Premier League season well, with Spurs unbeaten across their first three games, while Fulham have four points through their initial trio of matches.

Both clubs also lost key goal scorers this transfer window. Tottenham saw Harry Kane depart for Bayern Munich in the offseason, while Fulham fell victim to the Saudi spending spree as Aleksandar Mitrovic kicked and screamed until he secured a move to Al Hilal.

This tournament produces fond memories for Spurs fans, who last won a trophy in 2008 by triumphing in this very competition. Fulham's only major domestic trophy in club history is the 1974/75 FA Cup, meaning they have never achieved League Cup glory.

Fulham vs Tottenham prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Tottenham (-110)
  • Score prediction: Fulham 0-2 Tottenham

Fulham have proven gritty and tenacious through their first three Premier League matches, sporting much of the same personality they displayed last year under Marco Silva. Yet they also boast multiple qualities that are unsustainable over the long term.

First and foremost, the defence has been porous. The Whites have conceded five goals through their first three matches, and it should be even more — they saw Everton flounder in front of Bernd Leno's net, while Arsenal flubbed a number of good chances.

Tottenham, meanwhile, look to have improved defensively under Ange Postecoglou, without sacrificing their best-attacking threats, and James Maddison looks like a brilliant addition to help counteract the subtraction of Harry Kane. It's hard to see this finishing any other way, despite the strength of will Fulham have thus far displayed.

    Fulham vs Tottenham: best bet

    • Pick: Tottenham over 1.5 goals
    • Odds: -130 (BetMGM)

Spurs have scored multiple goals in each of their first three Premier League matches, showing they can defend without sacrificing attacking impetus. It's unclear who each team will rest in this match, but it would be unwise for Ange Postecoglou to sit too many starters given this competition could be his best chance at a trophy, and Fulham should likely deploy a similar approach.

Fulham, meanwhile, have conceded a gargantuan 9.29 expected goals through just three matches this season, a wholly unsustainable total that even the heroics of Bernd Leno will struggle to contain. Whether Fulham can pull off another stunner like they did against Tottenham's rival Arsenal this past weekend remains to be seen, but Spurs can be expected to net multiple times in this game.

    Fulham vs Tottenham prop bet

    • Pick: Under 9.5 total corners
    • Odds: +130 (BetMGM)

While Fulham often concede high corner totals, Tottenham aren't exactly enamored with set-piece chances. They collected six corners in each of their first two Premier League matches, before snagging just three against Bournemouth last time out.

Fulham will know their best chances may come from dead-ball deliveries, but they aren't built to earn them at will and probably won't hold a ton of possession in this match. Don't expect the two teams to pile up a ton of chances from corners, instead looking to attack each other through more open play combinations.
