Former Matildas player Elissia Carnavas was the victim of an attempted carjacking during a live radio interview on Tuesday night.
Speaking on SEN's The Global Game, Carnavas, who went by Canham during her playing days, was discussing women's football when she could be heard screaming and the interview was abruptly cut short.
Host and veteran commentator Simon Hill was left shaken by the incident.
“I have no idea what’s gone on there. I really hope Elissia is OK,” Hill said at the time.
“That’s a very scary moment that’s just happened live on air. I don’t know what to say. I heard screaming in the background, and that’s quite terrifying.
"That’s probably the scariest moment in my broadcasting career."
Hill later clarified on Twitter that Carnavas was the victim of an attempted carjacking but was otherwise alright.
Shout out to @elissiacar who had an awful experience tonight live on @GlobalGameSEN as thieves attempted to hijack her car. Thankfully, she got out of that situation and is fine. The most terrifying moment of my career that’s for sure, and we’re just relieved she’s ok.

According to The Age, Carnavas was in the Brisbane suburn of Coorparoo at the time when she was approached by five men.
“The males attempted to open the door, with one of them producing a knife and yelling at the woman through the closed driver’s side window,” a police spokesperson said.
“They were unable to gain entry as the vehicle was locked and returned back to the VW Passat before leaving onto Bennetts Road.”
