Chelsea teammates carry Didier Drogba off the field in his final match image

Prior to their regular season finale against Sunderland, Chelsea announced that it would be Didier Drogba's final match in the royal blue kit. 

Drogba, a native of the Ivory Coast, rose to international fame as a member of th iconic London football club from 2004 until 2012. After brief stints with Shanghai Shenhua and Galatasaray, he returned to Chelsea for one final season.

On Sunday, manager Jose Mourinho gave Drogba the start hen substituted him off just prior to halftime, allowing for the proper celebration. he receive a standing ovation from the fans, and was literally carried off the field by his teammates.

Drogba appeared in 227 matches for Chelsea, scoring 100 goals, including the game-tying goal in the 2012 Champions League final against Bayern Munich, a game Chelsea would go on to win.

Drogba will go down as one of the top African players of all time, and one of the most revered men in the history of Chelsea soccer.

This was the ending he deserved.
