The most successful team in the North American region, Mexico, only just made it into the draw for the 2024 Copa America.
Only a late turnaround and a penalty shootout enabled them to progress past Honduras in the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals and thereby secure a place in the tournament.
El Tri are the seeded team in Group B and will face Ecuador, Venezuela and Jamaica. They will be determined to prove they belong on this stage alongside the elite of two continents, particularly with the World Cup coming to North America in less than three years' time.
Below is how the Group B schedule looks with all four teams confirmed, along with a bracket for the knockout rounds, so the four nations will have a decent idea of what lies in store if they can progress to the quarterfinal stage and beyond.

Copa America 2024 Group B teams
Mexico
The 2024 Copa America will prove to be an enormous turning point for the Mexican national team. With the tournament hosted by its home away from home, El Tri are at a crossroads.
Their disappointing group-stage exit from the 2022 World Cup seems to have signalled a larger downturn for Mexico, and they have continued their skid in the months since that key failure. They were humbled by the United States in the 2023 CONCACAF Nations League semifinals and then nearly missed out on qualifying for the Copa America by losing in Honduras before a last-gasp comeback in the second leg to secure a spot in a penalty shootout.
Since letting head coach Tata Martino go after the World Cup failure, Mexico have not been able to find a long-term solution to lead the nation, as Diego Cocca failed to stick and Jaime Lozano has been under pressure since the beginning. Key attacking players like Hirving Lozano and Santiago Gimenez are struggling for national-team form, and the defence has proven leaky to counter-attacks.
A turnaround at the Copa America would restore faith in the regime ahead of their hosting duties at the 2026 World Cup, but disappointment would paint the federation as a rudderless mess with just two years to turn things around.
- Current FIFA world ranking: No. 14 (November, 2023)
- Regional ranking: 2nd (North America)
- Copa America titles: 0
- Copa America appearances (last): 10 (2016)
- Coach: Jaime Lozano (Mexico) since June 2023
- Key players: Edson Alvarez (West Ham / England), Santiago Gimenez (Feyenoord / Netherlands), Hirving Lozano (PSV / Netherlands), Guillermo Ochoa (Salernitana / Italy)
Ecuador
As Ecuador gears up for the Copa America tournament, the team prepares to make a mark on the international stage.
They're currently ranked 32nd in the FIFA world rankings and 5th in CONMEBOL, and will be led by Spanish manager Felix Sanchez, who took charge in March 2023.
The team's key players, Moises Caicedo of Chelsea, and Pervis Estupinan, who has shone for Brighton, will add valuable experience to the team's setup.
Caicedo is seen as a potential leader of this Ecuador side with his skills and ability to take control of the midfield and Estupinan's noteworthy performances for Brighton add a layer of expertise in defence.
As they enter the tournament, with no Copa America titles to their name, but with a determination to change that, the combination of Caicedo's leadership and Estupinan's defensive nous could prove pivotal in their pursuit of success in the USA.
- Current FIFA world ranking: No. 32 (November, 2023)
- Regional ranking: 5th (CONMEBOL)
- Copa America titles: 0
- Copa America appearances (last): 29 (2021)
- Coach: Felix Sanchez (Spain) since March 2023
- Key players: Moises Caicedo (Chelsea / England), Pervis Estupinan (Brighton / England), Piero Hincapié (Bayer Leverkusen / Germany)
Venezuela
Perennial outsiders Venezuela remain the only CONMEBOL nation never to have reached a World Cup. However, all of that might be on course to change under their Argentinian head coach Fernando Batista.
La Vinotinto are undefeated since the first round of qualifying fixtures for the 2026 World Cup, beating Paraguay and Chile and taking a point off Brazil away from home. An expanded allocation of six places automatic for CONMEBOL means fans can afford to dream.
It means the Copa America comes at a useful time for Venezuela to measure themselves in an elite competition. Their surprise run to the 2011 semifinals might be a bit too much to ask but the knockout stages are absolutely within reach.
Alongside veteran campaigners such as captain Tomas Rincon and all-time leading goalscorer Salomon Rondon, a nucleus of players who reached the final of the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup squad have now graduated. Girona midfielder Yangel Herrera is the standout from a crop who are entering their primes at an opportune moment.
- Current FIFA world ranking: No. 49 (November, 2023)
- Regional ranking: 8th (CONMEBOL)
- Copa America titles: 0
- Copa America appearances (last): 19 (2021)
- Coach: Fernando Batista (Argentina) since March 2023
- Key players: Salomon Rondon (River Plate / Argentina), Yangel Herrera (Girona / Spain), Josef Martinez (unattached), Darwin Marchis (Cadiz / Spain), Yefferson Soteldo (Santos / Brazil)
Jamaica
Jamaica were not expected to be in the position they are, but having qualified to the Copa America directly by shocking Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League, the Reggae Boyz have a chance to solidify their place as the North American region’s next rising star.
Les Rouges were thought to be the CONCACAF side ready to take the next step after they stormed through last World Cup qualifying cycle, but their humbling at the big dance in 2022 has led to a regression for the Canadian federation. Jamaica have stepped in with a chance to be the next to rise to prominence.
Jamaica have one of their most talented squads in years, with multiple players in the Premier League in their prime years, and goalkeeper Andre Blake still going strong at 33 years old. Reaching the Copa America knockout stage would be a spectacular way to announce their intentions to the world ahead of the 2026 World Cup in their own backyard and raise their world ranking to a more respectable number more befitting the squad they possess.
- Current FIFA world ranking: No. 55 (November, 2023)
- Regional ranking: 6th (CONCACAF)
- Copa America titles: 0
- Copa America appearances (last): 2 (2016)

- Key players: Michail Antonio (West Ham / England), Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union / USA), Bobby Decordova-Reid (Fulham / England), Demarai Gray (Al-Ettifaq / Saudi Arabia), Ethan Pinnock (Brentford / England)
