Ange Postecoglou has only just arrived at Celtic but he's quickly been warned the club could sack him by Christmas should he fail to hit the ground running.
The Hoops failed to win a trophy last season and opted to bring in the former Socceroos coach to help get the club back on track.
The 55-year-old faces a challenging start to his tenure in Scotland with his first competitive game to come next month in the form of a Champions League qualifier against FC Midtjylland.
Celtic then face reigning Scottish champions Rangers in late August and poor results in both games could pose trouble for Postecoglou.
Noel Whelan, who played in Scotland for Aberdeen and Livingston, believes the Hoops' decision to only hand the Aussie an initial one-year contract means they could look to move him on very quickly.
"There is going to be question marks from the get go,” Whelan told Football Insider.
"If he does not hit the ground running he is going to come in for it, simple. That is what happens when you take over at a club like Celtic.
"The fact that the club only gave him a rolling one-year contract speaks volumes. They are not clearly convinced either. If Postecoglou had the full backing of the board he would have been given a three-year contract.
"He has got a lot of work to do to convince the players and to convince the fans.
"If there is a sizeable gap between themselves and Rangers at Christmas time you could see the club start looking for a replacement. It would not surprise me.
"Postecoglou is a relative unknown at the end of the day so he will come under criticism. It was a shock to everybody when he was appointed."
Former Celtic manager Martin O'Neill recently gave Postecoglou some pointers and stressed a winning debut in the Old Firm debut will be key to getting fans onside.
The Hoops' pre-season kicks off early in July with a first friendly against English club Sheffield Wednesday.
