After suffering a 1-0 loss to Switzerland on the opening matchday of Group G, Cameroon still haven't managed to win a World Cup match since all the way back in 2002.

Remarkably, another against Serbia on Monday in Qatar would see the African side tie the record for the longest-ever losing run in competition history — nine matches, as set by Mexico between 1930 and 1958.

As such, expect Rigobert Song's side to show much more attacking threat in this encounter against much-fancied dark horses Serbia, though a repeat result of their opener vs Switzerland should perhaps be expected.

Cameroon vs Serbia odds

Despite a 2-0 defeat to Brazil on matchday one, Serbia come into this clash with Cameroon heavily fancied, according to the bookmakers.

While their attacking freedom was locked down professionally by the South Americans, this time should see a return to Serbia's usual 2022 form against Cameroon, and the type of free-scoring play that saw them qualify for the Qatar World Cup by topping a group that contained Portugal.

Cameroon vs Serbia: 3 things to know

Cameroon vs. Serbia team news

Cameroon didn't appear to suffer any injury concerns against Switzerland, when Napoli midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa — who had been a pre-match doubt — was in the starting lineup.

Meanwhile, Serbia boss Dragan Stojkovic may be tempted to start Dusan Vlahovic, depending on the Juventus striker's injury status following an adductor injury he suffered on October 21.

Vlahovic made his return to action when he replaced Filip Mladenovic after 66 minutes of the defeat against Brazil.

Cameroon vs Serbia key stats

  • As an independent European nation, Serbia have lost both of their previous World Cup outings vs African opposition.
  • After defeat to Switzerland on the opening matchday, Cameroon have now lost eight straight World Cup matches. Another loss here would equal the longest ever losing run in competition history (Mexico).
  • Since gaining independence, Serbia have lost eight of their 10 World Cup outings, the worst loss rate of any side to play a minimum of 10 matches in the competition.

Cameroon vs Serbia prediction

  • Moneyline lean: Serbia to win (-140)
  • Against the spread lean: Serbia -0.5 (-150)
  • Score prediction: Cameroon 1-2 Serbia

Given the odds on offer and their form prior to their opening World Cup match, Serbia should prove to be too strong for Cameroon here, though the value on the African side stealing an unlikely victory is tempting.

Serbia came into the tournament unbeaten across their last six internationals, winning five of those whilst finding the net 18 times during that spell.

Cameroon vs Serbia: best bet

With just three wins between them across their prior 20 World Cup combined outings heading into this clash, Cameroon and Serbia will both be desperate to take three points to give themselves a shot at qualification for the Round of 16.

Serbia are the bookmakers favourites, and that's unsurprising when looking through their squad.

With Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dusan Vlahovic and Luka Jovic all set to be available for this one, they'll have plenty of attacking firepower to call upon.

  • Pick: Both teams to score
  • Odds: -110 (BetMGM)

The second round of World Cup matches so far has seen a small explosion of goals when looking at the sides who failed to grab a victory in their respective openers.

Given that Cameroon and Serbia both failed to win three vital points on matchday one, we expect plenty of goals in this clash as a result, especially when looking at both sides' pre-tournament form.

Serbia struck 18 times across their final six matches before the 2022 World Cup, with four of those outings witnessing both teams score.

Similarly, both of Cameroon's friendlies before this tournament saw both teams net in two 1-1 draws, so we feel this should be a safe bet here.

Cameroon vs Serbia flier bet

  • Pick: Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to score first and Serbia to win
  • Odds: +1200 (BetMGM)

On first glance there's plenty of players who could break the deadlock here, but we can't ignore Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who represents fantastic value given he has been in good club form so far this season.

He's netted five times across 20 matches for Lazio across all competitions this season from his natural central midfield position. Add into that for Serbia he plays as an advanced, more attacking central midfielder and he'll fancy his chances versus Cameroon.
