Erling Haaland said he would "enjoy the chaos" of the season ahead after scoring two goals on the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign for a second successive year in the reigning champions' 3-0 win at newly-promoted Burnley.
Last season's runaway top scorer in the division reacted quickest to fire in from Rodri's header in the fourth minute, netting the fastest opening goal of a top-flight season since Paul Pogba pounced for Manchester United after less than three minutes against Leicester City in 2018-19.
The 23-year-old then curled a clinical first-time shot off the crossbar nine minutes before the break to take his tally to 100 in England and Germany since his first game for Borussia Dortmund in January 2020.

"We’ll see about that," Haaland told Sky Sports when he was asked if he could match his 52-goal haul across all competitions in his first season at City.
"It’s a good start. It’s about not stressing, relaxing and being focused on ourselves. I have to keep on working, keep on relaxing and try not to focus too much on negative things. I have to enjoy the chaos around me."
UEFA Champions League final matchwinner Rodri lashed in City's third, capitalising on confusion among Burnley's defence following a Phil Foden free-kick with 15 minutes remaining.

Burnley were lively on their return to the Premier League after a season away, threatening through bright work by Luca Koleosho and Zeki Amdouni but struggling to capture the cutting edge Haaland provided for City.
Kevin De Bruyne had to be replaced after 23 minutes through injury for City, and Burnley had Anass Zaroury sent off in second half added time following a VAR check and monitor review by referee Craig Pawson over a late challenge on Kyle Walker.

The Clarets have a 16-day break before their next match, when they host Aston Villa, because scheduled opponents Luton Town are not yet ready to host Premier League matches at their Kenilworth Road home.
City are next in action in the UEFA Super Cup against Europa League holders Sevilla on Wednesday. Newcastle are their visitors in the late Premier League kickoff three days later.
Pep talk demands directness
After De Bruyne first made his way frustratedly down the tunnel, Phil Foden initially appeared to be shifted to the right and Bernardo Silva situated more centrally as manager Pep Guardiola adjusted to Burnley's uncompromising approach.
With the hosts marking man-for-man, the master tactician, who was on even more animated form than usual and was booked during the second half, was soon urging his players to manage the ball meticulously, playing more passes but sending it long more often.

"We gave passes away," said Guardiola, who had visibly told Haaland not to risk losing possession by demanding the ball near the end of the first half. "I wanted them to be more direct. It’s the connection, doing exactly what you have to do."
Foden re-emerged for the second half in a narrower position, and Guardiola was pleased with the frequency and impact of the England international's perceptive passing to Julian Alvarez and Haaland.
"It’s a pleasure working with Pep," said Haaland, agreeing with his head coach's change of tactics. "I don’t know if there’s anyone better to work with as a young player – because I’m still young, don’t forget.

"If you can play from the keeper to the striker, why not? If that’s the way to play and it’s possible, we should do it. Bring it on."
Guardiola praised City but was less upbeat about De Bruyne, who passed the captaincy to Kyle Walker as he made way having played 13 fewer minutes than he managed against Inter in the Champions League final, preceding a peripheral part in City's pre-season programme.
"He is injured again," confirmed a sighing Guardiola. "Now we have to talk with the doctors. He has to be relaxed and come back."

Haaland starts fast again
There were murmurs - possibly loudest among Burnley fans this week - that Haaland's relative drought of one goal in eight competitive fixtures at the end of last season was a sign of deeper problems.
Unfortunately for optimistic opponents, Haaland scored with his first touch of the season to ensure he has contributed to goals in each of his last seven away games in the Premier League, scoring seven and setting up another.
The sharpness of Haaland's first goal made talk of a dry spell seem as fanciful as the speculation that he might struggle before his spectacular debut season, and his second was as instinctive as it was honed, struck without looking up from Julian Alvarez's subtle shift and pass.
"It's a lot more nerve wracking, I can tell you that."@JJWatt is ready to support Burnley as an owner, but can't forget his days out on the field. 😅 pic.twitter.com/NzuC6tRZzg

Only three current Premier League teams - Brentford, Chelsea and Liverpool - have now prevented Haaland from scoring against them in the league, and newcomers Burnley must have feared the worst following his 28-minute hat-trick against them in the FA Cup in March.
"We conceded after three minutes and you have to live with the consequences," said Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, a City legend and winner of four Premier League titles during eight years as club captain.
"When you have momentum, you have to do something. We were dangerous but not dangerous enough. Against the best team in the world, it is always going to be difficult."
No time to stay down, keeping our heads up! pic.twitter.com/Mf0Pln2GbW
— Lyle Brent Foster (@Lylefoster09) August 11, 2023
Kompany now has the distinction of becoming the first Belgian to manage in the Premier League, which will be little consolation for Burnley's 12th successive defeat in the fixture in all competitions – their outright longest losing streak against any opponents.
Burnley had enjoyed more touches inside the opposition penalty area than City well into the second half, but Haaland scored twice from just three shots and nine touches – and only Robert Lewandowski, with 114, has more goals than him since the Norway sensation's Dortmund debut.
The Sporting News followed the match live and provided updates and highlights.

Pep Guardiola and his former captain, Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, embrace as a comfortable victory for City comes to a close!
90 mins: Burnley 0-3 Man City
There will be six minutes of added time. You suspect that will resemble a modest amount by the end of the games to come this weekend.
87 mins: Burnley 0-3 Man City
There's a brief break because of an intruder on the pitch. Then Phil Foden sends in a shot from the right, hitting the side netting.
84 mins: Burnley 0-3 Man City
Burnley win another corner. Within a minute of the delivery, City are attacking at the other end with a chance for Julian Alvarez courtesy of Phil Foden's pass.
James Trafford gathers the striker's attempt with a routine stop.
81 mins: Burnley 0-3 Man City
Burnley keep going. Mateo Kovacic concedes a corner on the hosts' right, giving them a chance to send in a corner.
Bruun Larsen heads wide.
79 mins: Burnley 0-3 Man City
Three substitutions for City, including the removal of Erling Haaland, who settles for two goals on the opening weekend of the Premier League season for a second successive campaign.
Haaland had a sight of goal shortly beforehand but chose to set up Julian Alvarez, who couldn't quite fire a shot away to telling effect.
Cole Palmer and Aymeric Laporte are also on for Rico Lewis and Nathan Ake.
77 mins: Burnley 0-3 Man City
Pep Guardiola was booked before that third goal for his side. The visiting manager has been on outspoken form tonight.
75 mins: Burnley 0-3 Man City
Phil Foden whipped a free-kick from the left into the Burnley six-yard box for that third goal. The hosts couldn't deal with the danger, and Nathan Ake couldn't connect cleanly from close range.
The ricochet fell to Rodri, who certainly could connect – he lashed a strike into the roof of the net for his first goal since the Champions League final winner!

74 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Centre-back Jordan Beyer is down with cramp for Burnley.
Manuel Benson, a Belgian, comes on for the German.
72 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Phil Foden latches on to a long ball on the edge of the penalty area on the right and tries to locate Haaland with a clipped low cross.
The pass evades the striker, who ends up putting his arm around a ballboy.
Burnley are preparing another substitute.
69 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Julian Alvarez measures in an outswinging corner from the right. Lyle Foster heads it away near the edge of his own penalty area.
Erling Haaland's gone quiet in this half. Ominous for Burnley?
68 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Unwise from Burnley, who back off with Rodri in possession and heading towards the penalty area.
In fairness to the retreating defence, the sharp-shooting midfielder's eventual shot is blocked away.
65 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Burnley overlord Vincent Kompany embraces the fourth official as he makes a stern point about an issue that appears to be concerning him.
His assistant, Craig Bellamy, clearly didn't get any memo about matching his boss by wearing a suit. He's in a training top and shorts, looking ready to come on at any moment.
63 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
There's a suitably expectant roar as Burnley win a corner on their right, but City deal with the delivery comfortably.
61 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is entitled to feel his side have nothing to lose at this stage. The suavely suited Belgian - the first manager from his country to take charge in a Premier League dugout - brings on Anass Zarour and Jacob Bruun Larsen for Zeki Amdouni and Luca Koleosho.
58 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
That shot from Rodri means that City have made the last six attempts at goal in this game.
Burnley last had a go at goal through was Lyle Foster in the 37th minute.
55 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Rodri surges forward and swings a shot towards goal from a central position. The effort is dipping under the crossbar, and James Trafford takes no chances as the Burnley goalkeeper touches it over his crossbar.
The City midfielder then tests Trafford again from the corner, sending a low header from distance towards the England Under-21 EURO winner's right hand post, where the debutant claims it and holds.
54 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Burnley deal with successive corners from the left. Bernardo Silva bends a cross from deep on the right towards the penalty spot, which is also headed away.
52 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Erling Haaland lurks behind the Burnley defence, latching on to a pass through the right channel and firing in a shot from a tight angle that is deflected behind.
First spell of real danger for Burnley to deal with during this half.
50 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
City had almost 74% of possession during the first half, but this feels like a more even start to the second. If Burnley can reply next - and keep the ball away from Erling Haaland - Clarets fans will be able to dream of a surprise.
48 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Decent start to the half from Burnley, who play passes and search for an opening inside Man City territory.
A loose header allows Kyle Walker to enter Burnley's half on his right-hand side. City spread play to Nathan Ake on the left, but Burnley intercept and Lyle Foster tries to create an attack.
46 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Even by his standards, Pep Guardiola seems unafraid to express himself tonight. The City manager strode across the pitch with his arm around Bernardo Silva, offering instructions.
Luca Koleosho tries to fashion a chance for Burnley on the right at the start of the second half, and it comes to nothing.
Halftime: Burnley 0-2 Man City
As the teams go off, City boss Pep Guardiola makes a serious-looking point to Erling Haaland, who unwraps his long hair as he strolls past while Guardiola bats a camera away.
Potential caption competition fare inside, it was the striker making the statement during that half. The first goal was clinical, the second... clinical but more made for the highlights reel.
Kevin De Bruyne's early departure through injury is City's greatest concern, but there's also been a threat from Burnley, particularly through the fleet-footed Zeki Amdouni. It's hard to imagine them coming back, but they haven't been overwhelmed.
The stats for the crystal ball: City have won all 56 away Premier League games when they've led by two or more goals, while Burnley have lost all 11 home Premier League games when trailing by two or more goals.
45 mins +1: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Five minutes of added time are being played. Phil Foden shows a sublime touch to control the ball in a dangerous area but is crowded out as he enters the box.
44 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
The action has quietened down a little bit. Non-patronising credit to Burnley, who've played well and created chances. They've just come up against a striker too good for almost any team to realistically stop.
41 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Only Robert Lewandowski (114) has more goals than Erling Haaland in Europe's top-five leagues since his debut in January 2020, netting 63 for Borussia Dortmund and 37 for City.
Inevitable.
38 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
Manuel Akanji deflects a Lyle Foster shot from inside the box behind following alert interplay by Burnley on the right.
City deal with the corner, then break to dangerous effect.
37 mins: Burnley 0-2 Man City
"That's why he's the best finisher in world football," former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher tells Sky Sports of Erling Haaland's goal.
Carragher's probably not wrong. Julian Alvarez showed a silky touch to hold the ball up and play a short pass to Haaland inside the penalty area on the right, and the supernatural striker appeared to not even look up as he smacked a diagonal strike over James Trafford and in off the woodwork.
Two down, 50 to go if he's to match last season's total. You wouldn't bet against it.

35 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
Phil Foden has time on the ball just outside the Burnley penalty area in a central position, attempting to chip a pass inside the box on the right.
Dara O'Shea, who's had the most touches of any Burnley player, athletically heads clear.
32 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
Erling Haaland's goal was the quickest to open Premier League season since 2018-19, when Paul Pogba scored after 2 minutes and 23 seconds for Manchester United against Leicester.
29 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
Rodri thwarts Burnley in dangerous territory with a splendid tackle following a loose Rico Lewis pass, then has to perform another important challenge to stem a subsequent attack.
In between, Zeki Amdouni shows marvellous pace and skill, intercepting the ball beyond the halfway line on the left and skipping past Manuel Akanji's attempted tackle.
Amdouni's finish from inside the penalty area is powerful and curling – but it lands comfortably wide of the far post. Are City rattled at De Bruyne's enforced departure?
26 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
Julian Alvarez loses out in a one-on-one near the corner flag deep inside Burnley territory on City's left. He appears to kick the ball away, and is perhaps a little fortunate not to be booked under the rather zealous new refereeing rules about minor infringements.
Replays show Rico Lewis was hit by an object thrown by the crowd following a similar - but more aggressive - tussle at the opposite end.
24 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
Summer signing Mateo Kovacic makes his Premier League debut for City, coming on for Kevin De Bruyne, who heads down the tunnel looking suitably miffed.
Kyle Walker takes the captaincy, while it looks as if Phil Foden has switched to the right flank and Bernardo Silva has adopted a more central position.
City boss Pep Guardiola took the chance to address his players while the change was taking place. Not a tactical tweak he'll have relished making at this stage.
22 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
Bad news for City: Kevin De Bruyne, who's had a tough time with a hamstring issue during recent months, has pulled up. It looks like the captain will need to be replaced.
21 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
There are now only three Premier League teams Erling Haaland hasn't scored against: Brentford, Chelsea and Liverpool.
19 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
Now Burnley have their first shot on target. Luca Koleosho finds Zeki Amdouni with a cute pass as part of a bright move from the left, and the recipient arrows inside the penalty area on the left before sending in a shot from a tight angle.
Ederson gathers but the home fans really enjoyed that.
17 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
A scare for Burnley as Rodri evades the home defence and nods a cross towards goal. Debutant James Trafford parries it away, but an offside flag is raised.
15 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
An encouraging passage of play for Burnley, whose neat passing inside the penalty area sets up a shooting opportunity for Luca Koleosho.
The 18-year-old winger will need to do a lot better than that when he has opportunities this season, scooping a shot well over the far angle of Ederson's goal.
12 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
Zeki Amdouni gives possession away to Rodri just outside the penalty area, who releases Kevin De Bruyne in a dangerous position on the left.
The playmaker swings a delightful cross towards the far post, where Kyle Walker is lowering his head, ready to attack the delivery.
Erling Haaland reaches it first with one of his terrifyingly long legs, deflecting the ball off his calf and well clear of the target.

9 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
Despite their brilliance last season, Burnley had one of the worst records in the Championship when it came to conceding from set pieces.
They have a chance to cause trouble with one of their own, but can't make anything of a free-kick not too far from the City penalty area on the left.
7 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
Kevin De Bruyne lifts a shot from distance over the crossbar from a central position. It's been all City so far, with the returning midfielder involved in their best moves.
5 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man City
Kevin De Bruyne sent that corner low towards Phil Foden just inside the penalty area towards the near post.
Foden responded by starting another move that sent De Bruyne away on the same right hand side, curling a cross towards Rodri on the far side of the box.
City's UEFA Champions League final matchwinner nodded the ball down towards Haaland in front of goal, who showed speed of thought and quick feet to fire past James Trafford from close range.
