Brazil vs. Costa Rica lineups, starting 11, team news: Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo kick off Copa America 2024 image

Brazil kickoff their 2024 Copa America campaign in Group D against Costa Rica.

The Selecao will always feel like favorites when headed into an international tournament, however, they're in the shadow of Lionel Messi's Argentina who started their tournament with a 2-0 win over Canada.

Vinicius Jr. is expected to lead the attack for Brazil alongside his Real Madrid team-mate Rodrygo. Manchester United's Casemiro has not been included in the squad and therefore Marquinhos will captain the side.

Costa Rica have lost one of their last four matches against CONMEBOL teams in the Copa America and come into this match as huge underdogs.

The Sporting News provides a look at how the two sides lineup for their match.

The big absentee for Brazil at this tournament is Neymar, who has not recovered sufficiently from a serious ankle injury. However, they will also be missing experienced midfielder Casemiro, who was overlooked for the squad, and goalkeeper Ederson, who sustained a fractured eye socket in Manchester City's win over Tottenham last month.

Dorival Junior continues with his favored 4-3-3 formation but teen sensation Endrick is on the bench, with Barcelona winger Raphinha completing the front three alongside Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr

Brazil starting lineup (4-3-3): Alisson (GK) — Danilo, Militao, Marquinhos, Arana — Guimaraes, Gomes, Paqueta — Raphinha, Rodrygo, Vinicius.

Gustavo Alfaro, on the other hand, has set up his team in a conservative 4-3-2-1 formation.

Costa Rica starting lineup (4-3-2-1): Sequeira (GK) — Mitchell, Vargas, Calvo, Quiros — Brenes, Galo — Lassister Aguilera, Ugalde — Zamora.
