Brazil have finally kicked off Copa America 2024 with a comfortable victory over Paraguay.

After a tough opening night against Costa Rica, Dorival Junior made changes to the frontline and brought in Savio for Raphinha. Brazil began the night on the front foot and were awarded a penalty in the early stages, which Lucas Paqueta put wide.

Vinicius Jr then put them on the right track with a tap in to put them ahead before Savio doubled their lead.

The Real Madrid forward then added his second of the game after a moment of luck as he caught onto a rebound and stroked home into an empty net.

At the halftime break the score was 3-0 and Brazil had a commanding lead. Paraguay were not going out without a fight and they pulled one back immediately after the interval through Omar Alderete.

He hit a sweet strike from distance and it caught Alisson off guard before nestling into the back of the net.

Paraguay fought hard in the second half but their hopes were killed off when Paqueta had a second chance from the penalty spot and made amends for his earlier miss. It was another handball called on the Paraguay defence and Brazil took full advantage this time.

Andres Cubas was then sent off following a scuffle with Douglas Luiz. The Paraguay midfielder kicked out at the Aston Villa man following a challenge on the halfway line.

With the extra man, Brazil asserted domination and saw the game out with ease.

Dorival Junior's men next face their toughest opponents yet as they play Colombia in the final group game on Tuesday, July 2nd.
