While there may be a lack of Australian players in the Premier League this season, two Aussies have helped take down top-flight opponents in the FA Cup on Saturday.

One of the biggest upsets of the third round so far saw League One side Cambridge United beat Newcastle United 1-0 at St. James' Park.

Despite starting new signing Kieran Trippier, Newcastle had no response to Joe Ironside's goal in the 56th minute.

Australian Jack Iredale played the full 90 minutes for Cambridge at centre-back as he helped hold their Premier League opponents goalless to book their place in the fourth round.

"What a day! Unbelievable result and that will stay with me for a long time," Iredale posted on Twitter post-match.

"Clean sheet at St James...The support was incredible. Come on @CambridgeUtdFC."

Iredale was born in the UK but grew up in Australia and played for the nation's U17's team before signing for Scottish club Greenock Morton in 2017.

Not to be outdone, Australian goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic also made his senior debut for Championship side Huddersfield as they beat Premier League club Burnley 2-1 away from home.

The 19-year-old, who joined the Terriers in February 2020, came on in the 40th minute with Huddersfield trailling 1-0.

Bilokapic wouldn't concede on debut as he saw his side strike twice in the final 20 minutes to secure a memorable win.

Huddersfield coach Carlos Corberán was full of praise for the Aussie teenager after unexpectedly being called on.

"He was very calm and I am pleased when I see two keepers who are not playing usually have the personality and braveness to help the team," Corberan said post-match
