If Diego Simeone is searching for ways to invigorate Atletico Madrid following their defeat at Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, the chance to end Real Madrid's unbeaten start to the season and move within striking distance of the top of the La Liga table should help.

Atleti were on course for a useful fourth point from two games in their Champions League campaign until the 84th minute at Leverkusen, when Robert Andrich put the Bundesliga side ahead three minutes before Moussa Diaby sealed their victory.

Madrid also left it late, Federico Valverde making the breakthrough with 10 minutes remaining at home to RB Leipzig. Marco Asensio added a second in added time.

Atletico Madrid vs. Real Madrid betting odds

Atleti had failed to beat Madrid in 12 attempts in domestic competition before their 1-0 home victory in May, by which time their opponents had already won La Liga at a canter.

That could mean Simeone will be content to see his side close the shutters and target a point against visitors in flawless form. Only one of the past 13 meetings between these teams in league and Spanish cup competitions has produced more than two goals.
