Celtic coach Ange Postecoglou believes his side's style of football in a 3-2 win against Hearts on Monday morning (AEST) would have pleased his late father.
After losing to the same side just a fortnight ago in the Scottish Premiership, the Hoops never looked likely of defeat in the League Cup as they put in a particularly dominant first-half performance.
Odsonne Edouard, Stephen Walsh and Kyogo Furuhashi were all on the score sheet for Celtic with Hearts scoring a consolation goal in injury-time.
In claiming their fourth straight win in all competitions, Postecoglou's side played some ultra-attacking football as they fired off 36 shots compared to their opponents five.
The former Socceroos boss has previously mentioned his desire to play in a way that would make his late father proud and believes Celtic did just that with their most recent performance.
"That's the kind of football my father instilled in me. He's up there now, but I always envisage him in the stands and think about what he'd say about the team," Postecoglou said post-match.
"He was never that enraptured by results, he just wanted to see a certain type of football. I know he would have been off his chair in the first half especially.
"We played great but more importantly, the players enjoyed it and they got their rewards.
"I thought the first hour we were really good, the best football we played this year. We dominated and the only thing we didn't take advantage of was some unbelievable opportunities to put the game to bed.
"The football was outstanding, the intent was outstanding. We never took our foot off the pedal and credit to the players, in the middle of a heavy schedule, that they were able to push that far in."
The Hoops will now face second-division side Raith Rovers in the League Cup quarter-finals next month with Postecoglou delighted to secure home-ground advantage for the match.
“It’s another opportunity to play in front of our supporters here at Celtic Park and we’re all looking forward to it, obviously," he said.
"Every game in a cup competition is important and having home advantage is pleasing.”
Celtic's busy schedule continues this week as they host AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of their Europa League play-off on Thursday (AEST) before hosting St Mirren in the league three days later.
