Ange Postecoglou edges closer to Celtic manager role with Kevin Muscat in frame to join him image

Ange Postecoglou is set to be announced as Celtic's next manager this week and it's looking like he may well bring a controversial figure with him.

According to Sky Sports, the Australian coach has agreed to personal terms with the Scottish giants and could be unveiled later this week.

While Celtic fans have already fiercely debated Postecoglou's possible appointment, they'll be even less happy with rumblings he's set to bring Kevin Muscat with him as an assistant coach.

Muscat, who worked with the former Socceroos boss at Melbourne Victory, spent one season with Celtic's fierce rivals Rangers as a player and was key as they claimed a treble in the 2002-03 campaign.

With Postecoglou's arrival in Scotland seemingly imminent, it seems he could cause even more of a stir by bringing Muscat along for the ride.

"I have it on very good authority that Ange Postecoglou will coach his team on Wednesday night over in the Emperor's Cup...that will be the last time he coaches in Japan," Andy Maher said on SEN's Bob & Andy.

"I am told reliably that he will be on a plane that night via Athens heading to Glasgow and will be announced as the Glasgow Celtic coach thereafter upon arrival.

"Further to that, there is a very good chance, so I am informed, that Kevin Muscat may be his two IC (assistant coach). I'm loathe to go with this stuff too often...

"It would be intriguing because Kevin Muscat was a much-loved figure for Rangers - Celtic's absolute blood rival."

Maher's claims run contrary to recent reports out of Scotland, however, with Muscat seemingly not keen to be an assistant again.

Whether he brings Muscat along or not, Postecoglou is set to shake things up at Celtic with the club desperate to get back to winning ways after failing to win a trophy last season.

The Hoops begin pre-season in Wales on July 5 with the club to play three behind-closed-doors friendlies against Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton and Bristol City.
