Melbourne City and Sydney FC met in the A-League Women grand final at AAMI Park to decide the 2023/2024 championship.
Melbourne headed into the clash as the premiers after pipping their rivals to top spot on the ladder, while the Sky Blues were looking to defend their crown as the reigning champions.

Dario Vidosic’s City outfit entered into the decider in a rich vein of form after winning their past six games on the bounce.

Across from them was Sydney who were featuring in the grand final for the seventh straight season.
However, despite their ability to get to the biggest day on the calendar, the Sky Blues had had little to show for their dominance with just two titles form their last six appearances.
They got the job done last year against Western United, but nerves were understandably evident for Ante Juric’s youthful side.
The last time the two met in February, goalkeeper Melissa Barbieri played a blinder during a goalless stalemate.
And it was similar scenes in Victoria as both sides struggled to break down their opponents, with the Matildas legend becoming the oldest grand finalist in the competition’s history at 44 years old.
City controlled the ball throughout as they finished with 70 per cent of the possession, but it was Sydney who were able to finally break the deadlock when substitute Shea Connors combined with Indiana dos Santos on a rapid counterattack to drill the visitors into the lead in the 69th minute.
City piled forward in response to try and grab a leveller but a Laura Hughes long-range effort and a Rhiana Pollicina miss with the goal at her mercy saw their dreams left in tatters.
Sydney becoming the most successful club in A-League Women history as they edged ahead of City with the win to claim their fifth championship.
The Sky Blues defending their crown for the first time and snapping City’s incredible record in grand finals, which had previously seen them claim four wins from four appearances.
