Will the A-Leagues be on TV and live stream over the Easter weekend?
At this stage, the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) has not secured a company to provide broadcasts of A-Leagues matches over Easter.
However, News Limited reports a deal is to be announced with production company NEP on Thursday for A-Leagues matches to be broadcast for the rest of the season.
With no broadcast company officially announced, it remains a possibility that there is a blackout of A-League Men and Women matches on TV and live stream during Easter.
APL statement on A-League's broadcast
“We are disappointed in the manner in which this has come to our attention, and the risk this has placed on our fan, player, club, broadcast and commercial commitments,” an APL statement on Wednesday said.
“We have been let down, and will be working with the administrators to recoup moneys owing to APL.
“Through a lot of hard work by a new production company, Ten-Paramount, and our team, we are close to finalising an agreement and are confident all matches will be broadcast, starting tomorrow.
“There are many challenges that such a short timeframe presents, but we are working through this urgently with all of our stakeholders, and we thank the production company for their cooperation, flexibility and expertise at such short notice.”
Who is Global Advance?
Global Advance is a broadcast production company that was founded in 2020.
After Fox Sports' exit from domestic football in Australia, Global Advance's first major client was the A-League Men and Women competition in conjunction with the APL.
The company has produced every A-League Men and Women's broadcast for Network 10 and Paramount Plus.
Global Advance's administrator Grant Thornton released a statement explaining the uncertainty of the company's ability to provide A-Leagues coverage.
“We have immediately commenced a dialogue with the Australian Professional Leagues at the most senior levels to determine whether television coverage for all A-League men’s and women’s games this weekend can continue to be provided," a statement via Said Jahani of Grant Thornton said.
“At this stage, it remains uncertain as to whether this will be possible.”
