Socceroos star Aaron Mooy has broken his scoring duck for Celtic, bagging a double against Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership.

The 32-year-old midfielder joined the Bhoys in July this year and has now found the back of the net before 2023 rolls in.

Mooy was handed a start by Celtic manager and fellow Australian Ange Postecoglou for the league match away to Hibernian in Edinburgh.

He repaid Postecoglou's faith by opening the scoring in the 28th minute with a tidy half-volley as the ball fell to him in the box.

Shortly after, Japanese forward Daizen Maeda gave the Hoops' a 2-0 advantage courtesy of a stunning curling strike.

Mooy was able to secure his brace in the second half when he calmly slotted home a penalty, sending Hibernian goalkeeper David Marshall the wrong way.

Kyogo Furuhashi then rounded out the scoresheet for Celtic with a simple finish to make it 4-0 to the visitors.

Mooy reflected on his strong performance in a typically understated manner.

"I've had chances [to score] in previous games and not converted," the Sydney-born player told Sky Sports Scotland.

"But today I got one, and obviously a penalty.

"Happy with the result. 4-0 is a good win."

The victory moves Celtic nine points clear at the top of the Scottish league table ahead of local rivals Rangers.

Postecoglou's side has lost just one of their 19 matches this season, winning the other 18.
