5. Ben Halloran (Adelaide United)
The 29-year-old has become a key player for Adelaide United, following a stint overseas in the top two German leagues.
Halloran provided five assists and four goals in a quality 2020-21 season for the Reds.
With the loss of strikers Tomi Juric and Al-Hassan Toure, Halloran will be once again expected to provide an attacking threat this season.
4. Craig Goodwin (Adelaide United)
On the opposite wing to Halloran, Goodwin is another pacey and direct winger who can both assist and score goals.
After only returning to Adelaide for his third in stint in February, the 29-year-old scored eight goals and five assists in only 18 matches to be one of the league's lethal attackers.
As mentioned above, Adelaide will likely rely on Goodwin and Halloran to be key goal contributors with their striking department looking rather thin.
3. Craig Noone (Macarthur)
The English winger made the A-League team of the year after a dominant season for Melbourne City that saw him grab eight assists and score six goals.
After making the surprise move to Macarthur, the Bulls will be hoping the 33-year-old can form a lethal partnership with fellow new signing Ulises Davila.
2. Chris Ikonomidis (Melbourne Victory)
Troubled with injury at Perth Glory, Ikonomidis has made the move to Melbourne Victory with former coach Tony Popovic, hoping to drag the glamour club up the table.
At his best, the 26-year-old is a goalscoring winger, who can provide assists, and has the ability to be one of the competition's best players if he can keep his body right.
Despite only playing nine league games at Glory last season, Ikonomidis banged in four goals to show this threat in front of the net.
1. Mathew Leckie (Melbourne City)
After 10 years of being a semi-regular starter in Germany's Bundesliga, Leckie has returned to Australia at the age of 30 and is primed to spearhead Melbourne City's charge for back-to-back titles.
Leckie has recently become the starting centre forward for the Socceroos, but is likely to play on the wing at Melbourne City with Jamie Maclaren to occupy the central striking position.
It's exciting for Australian football fans to have a Socceroos star back in the A-League when he is still performing at near his best.
