FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019: Andrew Wiggins commits to play for Canada in China image

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China is set to be flush with big name NBA star's and Canada just received a major boost in their hopes of going deep into the tournament.

Number one draft pick in 2014 and Minnesota Timberwolves player Andrew Wiggins has committed to represent his country when the World Cup gets underway in late August.

Canada have been drawn in Group H alongside Australia, Lithuania and Senegal.

They'll kick off tournament play against Australia on September 1, then play Lithuania on September 3 before closing out the group stage against Senegal on September 5.


Canada is reportedly set to be coached by recent NBA champion Nick Nurse.

The 32-team 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup competition will be held from 31 August - 15 September in China. Eight cities will host World Cup games - Beijing, Foshan, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Nanjing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Canada will play three games in Australia as warm ups ahead of the World Cup.
