After a strong start from the Italians which saw them convert an early penalty, they thought they'd added another five points in the corner only for a video referral to deny them by the very finest of margins.
Winger Giovanbattista Venditti ruled to have gone into touch with his index finger still on the ball as he off-loaded to an awaiting Dean Budd who had no problems crossing over the try-line.
The decision would prove quite costly for the Italians who would go onto to concede two quick tries and trail 21-13 after half an hour.
