After an injury interrupted few months that saw him miss Game I of Origin, Johnathan Thurston has been cleared to return for the Cowboys against the Eels on Saturday.

Thurston injured his calf against the Tigers in April before returning for Australia during the ANZAC Test only to then damage his rotator cuff which has kept him grounded in recent weeks.

Despite North Queensland's medical staff reportedly urging Thurston not to play, he has passed a final fitness and is now expected to start in Darwin against Parramatta.

With Thurston's Origin replacement for Game I Anthony Milford injuring himself on Friday night, Maroons coach Kevin Walters will be desperate to see Thurston get through the match in one piece.
