It may be called the European Champions League but the UCL will have a distinctly Australian flavour with Socceroo Tommy Oar sealing a spot in the coveted competition.

Playing for Cypriot side APOEL FC, Oar featured in the first leg of their 2-0 playoff win over Slavia Praha which ensures the club's return to the Champions League after two straight seasons in the Europa League.
It marks a pretty remarkable rise back up the footballing ranks for Oar who was last season playing a bit part role for A-League side Brisbane Roar as they reached the semi-finals.
Prior to that, he did get a brief taste of Europe via short stints with English Championship side Ipswich Town and Dutch team FC Utrecht.

Oar won't be the only Aussie kicking around the Champions League this season with another Tom in the form of Tomas Rogic also set to line-up for Scottish club Celtic.
