Fijian Sisa Waqa has returned to the Melbourne Storm on a training contract after breaking his jaw during a short stint with French rugby side FC Grenoble.

The 30-year-old spent four years with the Storm before spending 18 months with the Raiders and making an ultimately ill-fated move to France where he broke his jaw just before Christmas.

Waqa will now spend time training with the Melbourne side as the club decides whether to sign him to a playing contract before the June 30 deadline.

While the Storm are happy to have Waqa back, Football Director Frank Ponissi admits both club and player need more time before any decision about his playing future is made.

"He got injured just before Christmas and moved back about three weeks ago," Ponissi told rlwc12017.com.

"We will have a look at him over the next few weeks and if he comes up all right we will sign him for the rest of the season.

"He is still a fair way off playing because he has been inactive for a while but he is showing good signs.

"This is his second week of training and we will probably give it another two weeks before we make a call."

Melbourne are currently two points clear at the top of the NRL table with just two defeats to their name this season.
