Wimbledon Wrap: Kyrgios cruises through, Tomic outclassed image

Novak Djokovic continued his comfortable start at Wimbledon with a third-successive straight-sets win, with Bernard Tomic beaten comprehensively on Friday.

The world number one continued his title defence in style against with a 6-3 6-3 6-3 win on Centre Court, booking his place in the fourth round.

Djokovic's exquisite strokeplay was just too good for Tomic, as perfectly executed lobs and precise groundstrokes enabled him to pick off an opponent who spent the majority of his time at the baseline.

Late in the day on No.1 Court, Marin Cilic and John Isner were locked in an epic five-set encounter before bad light stopped play at 10-10 in the decider.

US Open champion Cilic won the first set and third sets, but each time Isner fought back with the score reading 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (6-8) 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 10-10 by the time the match was suspended until Saturday.

American Isner is no stranger to marathon encounters at SW19 having been involved in the longest match in tennis history at Wimbledon in 2010 when he eventually triumphed 70-68 in the decider against Nicolas Mahut.

Whoever emerges victorious from the tussle will meet Denis Kudla, who overcame Santiago Giraldo 6-2  6-7 (3-7) 2-6 6-1 6-3.

Kevin Anderson will now play defending champion Djokovic after he battled through against Leonardo Mayer, the 14th seed prevailing 6-4 7-6 (8-6) 6-3, firing down 22 aces in the process.

Fourth seed Stan Wawrinka flexed his own muscles with a 6-4 6-3 6-4 triumph over Fernando Verdasco, the French Open champion maintaining his own perfect start to the tournament in just two hours.

Wawrinka's serve was working like Swiss clockwork and that was too much for Verdasco, a 14th ace sealing his progression to a fourth-round match with David Goffin.

The Belgian was far from intimidated by the big-serving Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, cruising through 6-3 6-4 6-2.

Things were not so easy for 2014 semi-finalists Milos Raonic and Grigor Dimitrov, though, with both suffering disappointing defeats to Nick Kyrgios and Richard Gasquet respectively.

Kyrgios fought back from a set down against the Canadian with a spirited display, the Australian winning 5-7 7-5 7-6 (7-3) 6-3, while Gasquet raced past 11th seed Dimitrov 6-3 6-4 6-4.
