The extension marks the largest one-year deal for an arbitration-eligible player in MLB history, according to baseball reporter Jon Heyman.
The deal also includes a $1 million bonus if Harper is named NL MVP next season.

That $1 million bonus is certainly attainable for Harper.
He was the unanimous NL MVP in 2015, and with a .372/.496/.717 slash line, 10 home runs and 29 RBIs so far this season for the surging Nationals, he’s the favourite to win the 2017 award, listed at 7-to-5 odds at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook.
