Who are the most consistent fantasy QBs? Find potential sleepers, busts in 2022 quarterback rankings image

The head-to-head nature of most fantasy football leagues should lead to a premium being placed on consistent players. Everyone seems to know this, yet very few fantasy owners factor "consistency" into their rankings, sleeper lists, draft strategies or even start 'em, sit 'em decisions once the season starts. QB tends to be the easiest position at which to find consistency, but it's still important to take a second look at how quarterbacks score their points before you draft them.

If you have been playing fantasy for any length of time, you know how frustrating it can be for your quarterback to score 30 points one week and 10 the next. How many times have you been one of the highest scoring teams in the league, but you still miss the playoffs by a game or two? Many will call it “bad luck," and that’s partially true, as key injuries, bad weather, etc. are situations that negatively impact fantasy teams. There's only so much you can do about those variables. However, there is one aspect you can have more of a say over, and that's the consistency of your players!

DOMINATE YOUR DRAFT: Ultimate 2022 fantasy cheat sheet

The Tools section of BigGuyFantasySports.com has a "Clutch Report" that calculates the "Clutch Factor" that a player must exceed each week to earn a "Clutch Game." The Clutch Factor is based on the number of teams in your league and the scoring method. For example, in a 12-team PPR format, a quarterback must earn over 19.5 Fantasy points each week to earn a "Clutch Game."

2022 CONSISTENCY RATINGS:
Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end

The more consistent a player is, the more beneficial they are to your fantasy team. How do you determine if a player is consistent in your league? You can easily do this on BigGuyFantasySports.com. Their consistency rate is referred to as "Clutch Rating" (CR). A highly consistent fantasy player will have a CR of more than 70 percent. The elite studs of the fantasy world will normally be between 80-90 percent.

2022 STANDARD RANKINGS:
QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers | Top 200 | Superflex

Every year, we identify undervalued players who might not be highly ranked but were very consistent and crucial to fantasy success. In addition, we project potentially overvalued players based on their lack of consistency.

Let’s take a look at how we tier off and rank the QBs based on projected consistency and overall potential.

2022 PPR RANKINGS:
QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers | Top 200 | Superflex

Consistency Ratings 2022: Rankings, tiers for most consistent fantasy QBs

Rank Tier Sub-tier Player
1 QB1 A Josh Allen, BUF
2 QB1 B Justin Herbert, LAC
3 QB1 B Tom Brady, TB
4 QB1 B Patrick Mahomes, KC
5 QB1 B Joe Burrow, CIN
6 QB1 B Matthew Stafford, LAR
7 QB1 B Kyler Murray, ARI
8 QB1 B Lamar Jackson, BAL
9 QB1 B Jalen Hurts, PHI
10 QB1 B Aaron Rodgers, GB
11 QB1 B Dak Prescott, DAL
12 QB1 B Russell Wilson, DEN

2022 RANKINGS TIERS & DRAFT STRATEGY:
QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs

A ranking of QB1A means I expect them to earn an 80 percent or higher Clutch Rate in 2022. Currently, only Josh Allen is ranked at that level in 2022. The remaining 11 quarterbacks are all ranked as QB1B. This means I expect them to exceed 70 percent or higher. Justin Herbert, Patrick Mahomes, and Joe Burrow all have to potential to exceed 80 percent in '22, but I believe they will be closer to 75 percent this year. The key is where they fall in your draft. If you can get any of these four after Round 5 in a 12-team draft, then grab them! If they go before that, wait and grab one of the other seven quarterbacks.

2022 AUCTION VALUES (Standard & PPR):
QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers | Overall

Let’s look at a couple of these quarterbacks and see which of them are undervalued or overvalued based on their current ADPs.

Undervalued: Matthew Stafford, Rams

Another bit of disrespect for the old guys! Stafford ended last year in the top five in both total points and consistency after losing his No. 2 receiver midseason. His ADP heading into this season is currently sitting at QB11/Round 8. If I can’t get Tom Brady in Round 6 or 7, I’ll certainly be happy with Stafford in Round 8. He lost Robert Woods but gained Allen Robinson. That’s an excellent value for him and for his fantasy numbers.

Overvalued: Trey Lance, 49ers

Lance will be the starting quarterback in San Francisco this year. Jimmy Garoppolo is still there but could be traded at any time. However, with so little known about Lance, it's tough for me to get on board with him as the QB13 (his current ADP). With many veteran quarterbacks like Kirk Cousins and Derek Carr being drafted in the same area, Lance is too much of a risk for me this year. Obviously, we have to project his consistency, but based on what we saw in his limited action last year, it's unclear if he has the passing chops to put up points every week.

2022 FANTASY SLEEPERS:
QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | One from each team

Trying to find consistent players should be an important part of your fantasy draft strategy every year. It’s great to draft players who earn a ton of total points, but if they don’t do it virtually every week, then you still might miss the playoffs and have no shot at the championship.
