Former NRL superstar Sonny Bill Williams is reportedly considering another staggering code switch, following the All Blacks' stunning semi-final exit from this year's World Cup.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting Williams has been offered a groundbreaking contract, worth a reported $9 million over two years, by Super League-bound outfit Toronto Wolfpack.

The former premiership winner was believed to be considering retirement, after the All Blacks were bundled out by Eddie Jones' England in a stunning 19-7 semi-final defeat on Saturday.

However, the 34-year-old is said to have fielded contract offers in recent weeks which would dupe any type of money the former Roosters and Bulldogs star has recieved so far in his career.

If Williams signs the Wolfpack's big-money offer it would make him the highest paid player in history in either code.

The Canadian side secured historic promotion into England's Super League recently, after they toppled Featherstone in the Million Pound Game, meaning they'll become the first North American side to compete in the competition.

Wolfpack's coach Brian McDermott has been outspoken with his intent to sign a 'David Beckham' style talent that will help grab headlines, and identified Williams as the perfect fit.

"Sonny Bill Williams has shown interest in us and that's what it is at the moment," McDermott said following Toronto's historic win over Featherstone.

"He's currently busy with the [Rugby] World Cup so I wouldn't ever dare to suggest that he is more than interested in coming but the answer wasn't a 'no' once we made contact so that's something we'd like to follow up.

"Our club would want to have a name that's absolutely international that everybody would recognise and help the profile of our game, very much like David Beckham did for Major League Soccer.

"But he would have to be a very good player as well, he's got to be able to do the job that I want him to do. There would be no token player or just a headline-grabbing player."

The Wolfpack already possess a wealth of former NRL talent, with former Cronulla premiership winner Ricky Leutele, former Dragon and Raider Josh McCrone, former Sea Eagle Darcy Lussick and journeyman Bodene Thompson all on their books.
