Fallon Sherrock was glad to have "helped darts" after her PDC World Championship campaign came to an end on Friday.

She became the first female player to win a match at the world championship by seeing off Ted Evetts in round one and then stunned number 11 seed Mensur Suljovic.

Sherrock, 25, ultimately had her hopes ended with an entertaining 4-2 defeat to Chris Dobey but only after her accomplishments had made waves.

As well as delighting the Alexandra Palace crowd, her exploits have captured global attention with tennis legend Billie Jean King, Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker and actor Stephen Fry among the high-profile figures to send their support.

And Sherrock told reporters: "I have helped darts in general, I think there's people now who didn't watch darts but want to watch it.

"Especially with the ladies game, I have proved we can compete with all these men, we need more opportunities.

"I feel so confident up there, I feel so comfortable, the most comfortable I have ever played on a stage. I loved every minute of this experience.

"The crowd were incredible again, I loved the way they were so supportive."

She added: "I've never experienced anything like it before but hopefully I will in the future because it's just unbelievable.

"I hope this journey can continue, I'm going to Q School in January where I hope to win a Tour Card and I've also got the World Series event in New York to look forward to in June."

Some fans dressed up as Sherrock for her third-round encounter with Dobey, which was a big surprise to her.

Sherrock continued: "I did see some when in the practice room. I thought, 'Ok, I have fans now!

"I didn't know how many people were actually dressed up, but it was cool. Nobody dresses up like me, I mean, come on, me!

"I've actually enjoyed myself so much and I didn't think this was ever possible."
