Often, sports fans only get to gauge athletes' chemistry on the pitch.

But for athletes, these things begin well before they suit up to play, and in Shane Warne's case, when you’re ordering room service.

From the Unreleased Tapes, Warne revealed that Merv Hughes was an incredible player, but an awful roommate, not least of all because of his tendency to order five-course meals after midnight.

“We’re at the bar the night before the game, and we get back at, I don’t know, probably midnight, 12:30, and we’ve had way too many, and I hop into bed and next minute I hear this phone, and [Hughes] goes ‘are you hungry?’, I went ‘yeah’, and he goes ‘yeah let’s order room service’,” Warne said.

“Can I have two hamburgers with the lot, a steak sandwich, a side of bacon, two sides of fries…do you want anything?

“We didn’t get through all of it… Merv tried.”
