Usman Khawaja’s likelihood of being retained for the third Test is looking up after notching a century against South Australia.

While Bulls coach Phil Jacques was wary of a seaming Gabba deck early Thursday morning, Khawaja has steered Queensland into a strong position on the opening day of their Sheffield Shield match.
The overcast conditions and slow start – it took 12 balls for Khawaja to get off the mark – would have done nothing for the Test incumbent’s nerves, but he settled to score a clutch century off 132 balls.

The same can’t be said for Joe Burns, who was caught down leg side for 4 – exactly the same fashion in which was dismissed during the second Test.
While Shield leaders South Australia are hoping to extend their lead at the top without Test quick Joe Mennie, Queensland are looking for their first win of the season.
