Ajinkya Rahane's unbeaten 91 set Rajasthan Royals on their way to a 14-run victory over Delhi Daredevils in the 500th Indian Premier League match on Sunday.
The opener's swashbuckling knock included nine fours and three sixes at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, while Karun Nair's 61 also proved invaluable in the Royals' total of 189-2.
Delhi were left to rue a series of fielding errors, including Gurinder Sandhu putting down Rahane in the 11th over, and their batsmen failed to score at a quick enough run rate in reaching 175-7.
Stuart Binny (2-27) and James Faulkner (2-22) did their part with the ball for the Royals.
The Daredevils, who thrashed Kings XI Punjab by nine wickets last time out, opted to field after winning the toss and that proved a questionable decision as Rahane and Shane Watson (21) set about the Delhi bowlers.
The duo forged a good partnership, with the pair finding the boundary three times off Zaheer Khan (0-31) in a fruitful fifth over.
Even when Watson edged Angelo Mathews (1-27) behind, the Royals maintained the momentum as Rahane and Nair combined to put on 113.
That would not have been the case had Sandhu made the catch off Rahane's loft to deep cover and the India star made full use of the reprieve with a flurry of sixes towards the end of the innings, while a Shreyas Iyer misfield in the 16th over gifted him an easy four.
Nathan Coulter-Nile (1-38) endured a mixed penultimate over, as Nair and Rahane smashed him straight over the ropes, but the former played the seamer straight to Amit Mishra at deep cover.
Delhi's fielding woes returned in the last over, though, as Coulter-Nile ran in to prevent Rahane's drive through long-off only to see the ball slip through his fingers.
The Royals, whose last two matches were washed out, started well with the ball as both Binny and Watson (1-25) struck to bowl Mayank Agarwal (11) and Iyer (9).
JP Duminy smashed three sixes and as many fours as he crafted a valuable 56, including partnerships of 33 and 41 with Yuvraj Singh (22) and Mathews (16), but he fell to Faulkner to leave Delhi requiring 45 off the last two overs.
Saurabh Tiwary did his bit to try to set up an interesting ending with a quickfire 28 off 14, but the 190 target proved out of reach.
Earlier, Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel produced superb batting performances to guide Mumbai Indians to a 23-run Indian Premier League win over Kings XI Punjab.
Mumbai's opening pair made the difference in a battle between the bottom two teams in the IPL on Sunday, with Simmons (71) and Patel (59) putting on a stand of 111 for the first wicket as the visitors reached 172-3 from their 20 overs.
And, despite the best efforts of the powerful David Miller (43), Kings XI were unable to get anywhere near their target.
Excellent bowling in the closing overs of Kings XI's reply, particularly from Lasith Malinga (2-31), ensured Mumbai's fourth victory of the campaign by restricting the hosts to 149-7.
Simmons and Patel bludgeoned the Kings XI attack in the opening 12 overs, with the latter hitting eight boundaries in his 36-ball innings before falling to Karanveer Singh (1-30).
Yet Simmons refused to allow Mumbai's momentum to slip, his more patient approach holding together their innings until his dismissal at the hands of Anureet Singh (1-30) with three balls remaining.
None of the Kings XI players possessed Simmons' composure at the crease, as Malinga, Jagadeesha Suchith (1-33) and Harbhajan Singh (1-27) reduced them to 86-3 inside 12 overs.
South Africa's Miller briefly offered a riposte, however, his scoring was pedestrian and his exit via a superb diving catch from Rohit Sharma effectively ended any chance of a Kings XI victory.
Desperation set in as wickets tumbled through late run outs on another disappointing day for last year's runners-up.
