Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have created history in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.

The Australian fast-bowling duo received record-breaking bids for their services at the event in Dubai.

Cummins fetched AU$3.67m from Sunrisers Hyderabad – the highest bid ever made in the competition.

Just over an hour later, however, that figure was trumped, with Kolkata Knight Riders paying AU$4.43m for Starc.

Cummins and Starc to earn more than IPL prize money

Remarkably, both players will earn more via their individual salaries than the winners' prize money in the IPL.

The 2024 champions are set to take home a total of AU$3.56m – just under AU$100,000 less than what Cummins will earn in the season.

  INR AUD
IPL 2024 winner 20 crores $3.56m
Mitchell Starc's IPL 2024 salary 24.75 crores $4.43m
Pat Cummins' IPL 2024 salary 20.50 crores $3.67m

After becoming the most expensive player in IPL history, Starc was ecstatic.

"It was a shock," he told JioCinema.

"My wife (Alyssa Healy) is in India with the women's team. She was updating me from there, as my telecast was lagging.

"I am surprised but thrilled to be back involved in the IPL, and excited to join KKR."
