They may play very different sports, but both cricketer Chris Lynn and rugby league star Billy Slater, have both battled serious shoulder injuries recently with their respective careers seemingly on the line.

With a 34-year-old Slater defying the odds in 2017 to make a convincing comeback that saw him win the grand final and Clive Churchill medal with the Storm, a comparatively youthful Lynn is inspired to do the same.

Though still recovering from his shoulder surgery, the 27-year-old just signed a lucrative five-year contract extension with Big Bash side Brisbane Heat, and has looked to Slater's scintillating season for motivation as he himself eyes a return later this year.

"It is inspiring to see him (Slater) do that," Lynn said.

"He would have gone through some tough times so it was great to see him bounce back and show he was still a world-class player.

"He is on a different level to me but he is someone I look up to.

"Watching him makes me want to bounce out of bed and be a better player and person."

Having suffered three serious shoulder injuries in just two years, Lynn conceded his shoulder will never be 100 percent again but believes it will be good enough for him to get back to his big-hitting ways.

"I am pretty confident the shoulder is good enough to play cricket," he said.

"I am not tackling front-rowers or anything," Lynn said.

Lynn has become a short-form specialist of sorts having never played a Test for Australia and recently declining a contract with the Queensland Bulls to focus on a successful BBL return.

You can't really blame him either having been named the competition's Player of the Series for the past two seasons.
