Joe Burns and Usman Khawaja sent a message to Australia selectors with centuries against New Zealand on Saturday.
Burns opened and struck an unbeaten 102 before retiring during a Cricket Australia XI's two-day tour match in Canberra.
Khawaja, who was likely to be picked for the first Test regardless, also delivered at number three.
The left-hander hit 20 boundaries and brought up his ton with a flick off his hips for four as he finished the day on 111.
Burns and Khawaja had both failed in Friday's 50-over game at Manuka Oval.
Cam Bancroft had been talked up in the lead-up, but he fell for 42 opening alongside Burns.
Adam Voges (33) may also play the first Test, which starts in Brisbane on November 5, while Shaun Marsh (11) failed to impress.
The CA XI finished the day at 325-4, with the Kiwis only taking two wickets to go with the two retirements.
Trent Boult bowled 14 overs and took 0-30 for New Zealand, who won Friday's tour match by 102 runs.
