Shubamn Gill will be one of the most important players in the Indian squad in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup which is slated to be played from October 5 to November 19.
Jacques Kallis, who had earlier worked with Gill during his stint as a batting consultant for Indian Premier League (IPL) side Kolkata Knight Riders in 2015, praised the batsman for his style of play. The South African feels that the young batter could be the breakout star in the global tournament and hailed him as one of his "favourites" to watch.

“For me, the young player of the World Cup will be Shubman Gill. What a talent, not much more needs to be said about him, except to think I was going to enjoy watching him bat. One of my favourite players to watch," he told ICC.
"I was lucky enough to work with him at KKR and see him develop, looking forward to seeing him have a good World Cup," he added.
How has Shubman Gill performed in ODIs in 2023?
Gill has been in sublime form in ODIs this year, scoring 750 runs in 12 matches at an average of 68.18, with three hundreds and two fifties. He also scored 85 runs in the three-match series against West Indies, which India won 2-1.
In 2022, he accumulated 638 runs in 12 games at an average of 70.89, with one century and four half-centuries.
Gill was also the leading run-scorer in IPL 2023, smashing 890 runs in 17 matches, with three hundreds and four fifties.
However, he struggled in the T20 series against West Indies scoring 102 runs in five innings at an average and strike-rate of 20.40 and 120 respectively.

When does Shubman Gill play for India next?
Gill will search for form in the Asia Cup 2023. He would want to start the tournament on a high in the campaign opener against Pakistan on September 2.
