The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction has generated significant buzz following the announcement of the player list on December 11.

World Cup champions Travis Head and Pat Cummins headline the roster of 332 players set to go under the hammer.

There have been three withdrawals and two additions to the original list of 333 players for the IPL 2024 auction. Rehan Ahmed of England and Taskin Ahmed and Shariful Islam of Bangladesh won't be a part of the auction anymore. Meanwhile, Kaushal Tambe and Sahil Dhiwan have been added to the list.

The Auction will start at 1PM Local time (Dubai) – 2:30 PM IST.

9:02pm- That's it from today's coverage of the IPL 2024 Auction. The teams look set with their squads and will feel satisfied after a demanding day at the Coca Cola Arena, where teams went berserk and battled against each other to acquire the best players. Signing off for tonight, ciao!

9:02pm- The final player to be sold today is Saurav Chauhan, who has been purchased by RCB for INR 20 lakh.

9:00pm- KKR buy Sakib Hussain for INR 20 lakh.

8:59pm- RR buy South African left-arm quick Nandre Burger for INR 50 lakh.

8:58pm- Avanish Rao Aravelly has been bought for INR 20 lakh by CSK.

8:57pm- RCB buy Swapnil Singh for INR 20 lakh.

8:56pm- MI buy Shivalik Sharma for INR 20 lakh.

8:55pm- RR buy Abid Mushtaq for INR 20 lakh.

8:53pm- Swastik Chhikara finds a team as DC buy him for 20 lakh.

8:51pm- KKR buy English quick Gus Atkinson for INR 1 crore.

8:50pm- Delhi Capitals buy Shai Hope for INR 75 lakh.

8:50pm- Mohammad Nabi has been roped in by Mumbai Indians for INR 1.50 crore, adding an important player to their ranks.

8:48pm- Arshad Khan has been bought by LSG for INR 20 lakh.

8:46pm- KKR add Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman to their ranks for INR 2 crore.

8:45pm- Lockie Ferguson has found a team and it's RCB, purchasing him for INR 2 crore.

8:44pm- Steve Smith will remain unsold and will not feature in IPL 2024.

8:43pm- Punjab Kings have been on a buying spree, now bolstering their batting unit by buying South African Rilee Roussow for INR 8 crore.

8:37pm- After going unsold in the initial rounds, Manish Pandey has been purchased by KKR for INR 50 lakh.

8:36pm- We are back for the next set of players that will go under the hammer. Here we go.

8:11pm- Sunrisers Hyderabad get Jhathavedh Subramanyan for his base price of INR 20 lakh.

8:10pm- Punjab Kings buy Prince Choudhary for INR 20 lakh.

8:04pm- Gujarat Titans buy Robin Minz for INR 3.60 crore.

7:58pm- Punjab Kings buy uncapped trio of Ashutosh Sharma, Shashank Singh, and Vishwanath Pratap Singh for their base prices of INR 20 lakh each.

7:54pm - Delhi Capitals purchase Sumit Kumar for INR 1 crore.

7:52pm- Mumbai Indians purchase two uncapped youngster in Naman Dhir and Anshul Kombaj for their base prices of INR 20 lakh each.

7:44pm- Sri Lankan quick Nuwan Thushara has been sold to the Mumbai Indians for INR 4.80 crore.

7:41pm- Royal Challengers Bangalore have bought Jhye Richardson for INR 5 crore.

7:38pm- Mustafizur Rahman has been bought for INR 2 crore by Chennai Super Kings. 

7:35pm- Aussie left-arm quick Spencer Johnson has been sold to Gujarat Titans for a whopping INR 10 crore with Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans locking horns in a bidding war. 

7:25pm- Lucknow Super Giants get David Willey for INR 2 crore. Must say that it's a bargain for the Englishman.

7:16pm- Alright, we are back after the break for the accelerated bidding. In this set, teams that have shortlisted a select number of players will go under the hammer. 

6:34pm- Set 10 comes to an end. It's time for a short break, with accelerated bidding set to take place on the other side of the break.

6:31pm- 25-year-old left-arm spinner from Tamil Nadu, M Siddharth, is bought for INR 2.4 crore by LSG. A good deal for the uncapped spinner.

6:23pm- And Set 9 ends, with Yash Dayal going for INR 5 crore to RCB. 

6:10pm- Kumar Kushagra, the 19-year-old uncapped wicketkeeper, goes for an astounding INR 7.20 crore, bought by Delhi Capitals! With that, Set 8 comes to a close. 

6:02pm- Set 8 has begun and uncapped wicketkeepers will go under the hammer. 

5:44pm- Set 7 comes to and end. The auction will resume in 10 minutes.

5:43pm- Shahrukh Khan earns a big paycheck yet again. After a terrific Tamil Nadu Premier League season, where he was the highest wicket-taker, he gets bought by Gujarat Titans after they pip Punjab Kings in the bidding war, the latter releasing him ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction.

5:29pm- Set 6 comes to an end and Set 7 has begun with uncapped all-rounders set to go under the hammer. Watch out for Maharashtra's Arshin Kulkarni and Mumbai's Musheer Khan.

5:27pm- This is some serious business from the Chennai Super Kings as they shell out INR 8.40 crore for 20-year-old Uttar Pradesh batsman Sameer Rizvi. 

5:18pm- SET 6 BEGINS WITH A BANG!!! This is outrageous stuff. Uncapped batting all-rounder Shubham Dubey, who plays for Vidharbha in the domestic circuit, has been sold for INR 5.80 crore to Rajasthan Royals. It was an intense bidding war with Delhi Capitals that lasted for almost 10 minutes.

4:00pm- Five sets have been completed now, bringing an end to the capped players. The uncapped players will be up next. Join us after the break.

3:46pm- WOW! The IPL record is broken again, as Mitchell Starc could play in the IPL for the first time since 2015. He will be part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad, who buy him for an eye-watering INR 24.75 crore.

3:14pm- 3 of the 5 wicketkeepers in Set 3 have gone unsold.

2:40pm- Daryl Mitchell, the Kiwi all-rounder will play for Chennai Super Kings for INR 14 crore. They have also picked up old boy Shardul Thakur.

2:14pm- World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins is back in the IPL! He will play for Sunrisers Hyderabad and earn a whopping INR 20.50 crore, making him the most expensive IPL player ever!

1:59pm- Kiwi youngster Rachin Ravindra has joined Chennai Super Kings.

Auction Dynamics

  • Schedule and Venue: The IPL 2024 is expected to return in March, slightly earlier than its usual schedule, accommodating the T20 World Cup in June in the West Indies and the United States of America.

  • Franchise Budgets: The 10 franchises have a combined total of Rs 262.95 crore left in their purses for the auction. Notably, Gujarat Titans, having traded captain Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians, boast the most significant purse with Rs 38.15 crore.

Other notable names in the auction include New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra, who has listed his base price at INR 50 lakhs. Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee and England batter Harry Brook are also among those who will go under the hammer.

Meanwhile, Indian players, like Harshal Patel, Shardul Thakur, and uncapped Indian Shahrukh Khan aim to attract significant interest. 

IPL 2024 mini auction rules: Explained

Out of 332 players, 216 are Indians and 116 are overseas players of which 2 players are from associate nations. The total capped players are 116, uncapped players are 215 and 2 from associate nations.

INR 2 crore is the highest reserve price with 23 players choosing to be slotted in the highest bracket.

How is the purse amount determined for each team?

Teams have already released players while some have retired like CSK's Ambati Rayudu. Him leaving the team adds INR 6.25 crore to CSK's purse. Ben Stokes will miss IPL 2024 and CSK released him, meaning another INR 16.75 crore went into their bank.
