India Women are on course to make it two Test wins in as many games after putting themselves in a commanding position at Stumps on Day 2 against an uncharacteristic Australia Women team at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The hosts started the day at 98-1 after Australia won the toss, opted to bat first, and were dismissed for a paltry total by their standards, managing just 219 runs on the board in the 1st innings.

Openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana shared a 90-run opening stand to eat into the majority of Australia's 1st innings total, giving India the most ideal start.
The 1st Session of Day 2 belonged to India as they added 95 runs on the board at the loss of just two wickets, with just 26 runs separating the two sides in the 1st innings at Lunch. Mandhana surely deserved a century after being dismissed for 74, if not for an unfortunate run out.
Australia could have put more pressure on their opponents, but they would have certainly rued their below-par fielding efforts on the ground. However, Ashleigh Gardner, the pick of the bowlers for the visitors, kept it tight and ensured she didn't give away easy runs to the opposition.
Come the 2nd Session, India seemed to be losing the plot as Gardner picked three wickets (Harmanpreet Kaur, Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues) in what was a phenomenal spell by the 26-year-old off-spinner.
Test debutant Richa Ghosh and Jemimah had brought up a century stand - as well as their half-centuries - for the fourth wicket as India had started to run away with a lead, but Garnder's three-pronged sting - coupled with Kim Garth's dismissal of Ghosh - reduced India to 274-7 from 260-3 in the space of less than ten overs. At that point, the lead was 55 runs, which wasn't much in the grand scheme of things at that moment. Australia had the chance to wipe the tail cheaply and prevent the lead from turning into a match-defining one.
But, that was exactly what didn't transpire for the visitors. Deepti Sharma, the chief protagonist of India's win over England Women last week, and Pooja Vastrakar, the chief tormentor of Australia in the 1st innings, added 102 runs (and counting) for the eighth wicket, with Deepti remaining unbeaten on 70 (147 balls) and Vastrakar playing the perfect second-fiddle by scoring 33 (115 balls).
India, at the end of Day 2, led the Aussies by 157 runs to take the Test by the scruff of its neck and put themselves in pole position to win their first-ever Test over the team from Down Under.
