On Friday, Pakistani all-rounder Imad Wasim announced his decision to retire from all formats of international cricket.

Imad represented the Pakistan national team on 121 occasions between 2015 and 2023, with 55 ODI appearances and 66 T20I caps. A left-arm off-spinner who was capable of wielding the willow, he was often worth his weight in gold in a limited-overs lineup.

Imad's first time representing the country came in the U19 World Cup in 2006, a tournament which saw the emergence of future greats such as Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Martin Guptill, Dean Elgar, Kieron Pollard, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. Pakistan won that tournament, and Imad went on to captain the side in the 2008 edition.

For someone batting primarily lower down the order, Imad averaged an unusually high 43 with the bat in ODIs for Pakistan, highlighting his importance to the setup. With just 44 wickets in 55 matches, he was never the most dangerous bowler but tended to keep things tight, runs-wise. He was part of the Pakistan squad that won the Champions Trophy in 2017.

He made a name for himself as somewhat of a T20 specialist, often bowling inside the Powerplay with fielding restrictions in play. Imad has the unique distinction of having identical personal-best bowling figures in both ODIs and T20Is, of 5/14.

Imad has had a successful franchise career as well, representing the likes of Karachi Kings, Jamaica Tallawahs, Barbados Tridents and Melbourne Renegades, which is set to continue for the time being.
