Former Australia paceman Jason Gillespie has criticised England's overall performance after a surprise defeat to Bangladesh confirmed their Cricket World Cup exit.

England's elimination from the tournament was confirmed by Monday's 15-run loss to Bangladesh as they failed to chase down a target of 276.

It marked the continuation of a miserable campaign for England who suffered big losses to Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka, with their solitary win coming against Scotland.

The only chance to salvage some pride comes in their final Pool A match against Afghanistan on Friday, and critics have already started sharpening their knives with captain Eoin Morgan and coach Peter Moores coming under pressure.

But Yorkshire coach Gillespie believes that the team as a collective must take responsibility for their failure and insists Morgan's men are better than they showed.

"It is disappointing for them [England]," he said. "They're a better side than that and to lose to Bangladesh is very disappointing.

"To be honest they probably haven't bowled well enough. I think their batting at times has let them down as well.

"With those two combinations, you're not going to win many games."

With Moores' position under threat, Gillespie - who led Yorkshire to the County Championship last season - has once again been linked with taking the role.

But he insists that his primary focus remains with Yorkshire.

"It's nice to be thought of that way, but I'll tell you right now, I'm committed to Yorkshire and looking forward to the county season," he added.
