What happened in the Washington's Freedom match against San Francisco Unicorns?
In the qualifier match at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, The San Francisco Unicorns, after being invited to bat first, had a disastrous start, losing four wickets before reaching the 50-run mark.
Marco Jansen struck early, dismissing players Finn Allen and Josh Inglis. Rachin Ravindra's exceptional bowling (4/11) further dismantled the Unicorns, who were bowled out for 145.
Chasing the target, Washington Freedom lost Steve Smith early, but Travis Head's aggressive batting turned the game around. Head scored 31 runs off Carmi le Roux’s two overs and another 13 off Haris Rauf, helping Washington reach 52/1 by the end of the powerplay.
Despite a few setbacks, with Andries Gous and Rachin Ravindra getting out cheaply, Head’s solid partnership with Glenn Maxwell (54 off 23 balls) ensured the team crossed the 100-run mark by the 13th over. The duo's partnership led Washington to victory in just 16 overs.
With this victory, Washington Freedom became the first team to reach the MLC finals. The San Francisco Unicorns will now face the Texas Super Kings in the Challenger for a chance to join Washington in the final clash.
Head’s consistent performances have been instrumental in Washington’s journey to the finals, and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming matches.
